Everyone's talking about it and probably spoilers are everywhere and we've only played the first game, and even then that was years ago and we didn't follow the story like at all
Felthry's VGM Selection
Hall of the Elders
Metroid Prime
Kenji Yamamoto and Kouichi Kyuma
This reverent piece is played in the main hall of an ancient Chozo temple on Tallon IV, a place Samus returns to several times to obtain gifts left for her by the Chozo.
Like much of the music of the Metroid series, it says a lot with very little; there's a single, slow melodic phrase at the beginning, a solemn theme used throughout the series to represent the Chozo.
But rather than continue in conventional musical methods, the composers move to slow, steady tones with ambient sounds in the background that do quite a good job of conveying the idea of ancient supertechnology; sounds that are obviously artificial but not like any machine that exists on earth.
It does a very good job of conveying respect for those who went before.
In a similar vein, air conditioners are everywhere, but no one seems to make fire, earth, or water conditioners.
It's the little touches that really make a game. Case in point: In Metroid Prime 2, whenever you enter a save station, Samus slumps her shoulders and looks ever so slightly downward, in a way that conveys very well that she's _tired_. She knows she has to continue on, and she takes a deep breath and straightens up immediately after saving, but that brief moment of vulnerability really shows you that Samus is a _person_, not just some kind of idealized force of good.
you could take this in a lot of ways, and I bet some of those ways would be better than my thoughts on it, but I was just thinking about how there are games that are literary classics in their own right, like Tales of Symphonia or Suikoden
no other job that we know of has made such a complete transition from job to machine. Some have made a partial transition; words like "dishwasher" can mean either the job or the machine.
