just about anything, no matter how vulgar, rude, or otherwise unpleasant, will look beautiful when written in a script you can't read

I wonder if the Latin alphabet looks as aesthetically pleasing to those unfamiliar with it as many other writing systems look to us

Tales of Symphonia spoilers, interesting thing

@connie I'm watching a speedrun of Tales of Symphonia and I thought you might find this interesting, given that you're currently playing it: turns out you can just skip the events around palmacosta and come back later and everything works out--this is done in speedruns because it means you have Sheena on your first visit to the water shrine and you can just go ahead and get Undine instead of backtracking later

This isn't even a glitch or oversight or anything, despite the fact that it means doing level 25+ areas when your party is at level 10-ish; the devs included dialog lines for Sheena in the palmacosta events and everything

because it leaves you hilariously overleveled for the palmacosta events, it also means that the magnius battle takes like twenty seconds (and sure, it's a speedrunner doing it, but that battle is normally really hard and long!)

if you think about the literal meaning of the words, "(event) changed my life" is a vacuous truth, since your life after event is different than before it by the simple fact that after event, your life story contains event, where it did not previously

if there's enthusiasm, why is there no exthusiasm? give us other types of thusiasm

we've encountered several benjamins, but not once have we seen a benjamax

(for those who don't know: basically every op amp on the market calls itself a "precision op amp" on the datasheet)

just once i want to see an imprecision op amp

they call them badgers, but they don't seem very intent on badging.

(Noishe is clearly not a dog; he's large enough for a full-grown adult human to ride him, he has massive ears, is colored white and pastel green, and if the walking sound effects are anything to go by (they aren't, this game is early-00s and it really shows in the environmental sound effects), he also has hooves or something)

A word I coined the other day: Foxoidal, meaning vaguely fox-shaped but also clearly not a vulpine.

Coined in reference to Noishe, Lloyd's "dog" from Tales of Symphonia.

random video game detail i appreciate:

xenoblade chronicles, because it was originally not going to be released in north america, but was released in europe, has the english dub done by British voice actors, and this aspect stuck out to US players when they played it

because of this, when they made Xenoblade Chronicles 2, they kept that up, and even added regional accents; Welsh accents in gormott, Scottish in mor ardain, even Australian in Uraya iwrc

...i just got a phone call from what appears to have been a fax machine or a modem

Which have you played?

As a follow-up to the best jrpg series poll, i'm curious which ones of these people have actually played at least one game out of (not necessarily all the way through, but more than just trying it out for a few minutes):
