"If a person can’t get out of bed, something is making them exhausted. If a student isn’t writing papers, there’s some aspect of the assignment that they can’t do without help. If an employee misses deadlines constantly, something is making organization and deadline-meeting difficult. Even if a person is actively choosing to self-sabotage, there’s a reason for it"
This is such a good article. CW discussion of ableism

It's similarly easy to grade when they don't even try but I don't like that as much because I like people to be actually trying and learning
I like when the students I'm grading get the problems right
that makes it really easy to grade (and also means they're understanding the material, I like when people understand)
when they get it wrong, unless they just don't even try, I have to go back and figure out what exactly they did wrong to figure out partial credit
money, anxiety, disability, request for help
so, hey, social security has denied my disability application appeal, and guess what, we're behind on rent and I can't work and neither can @pillowcat and this decision is bullshit.
Look we need help. Desperately. we're in the hole pretty deep and getting deeper by the month and until and unless one of us gets on disability it's gonna keep that way. if anyone can help please please please

mh-
well now we feel awful
made a pretty big mistake in the solutions we wrote to one of the homework assignments and now i think the professor we're taing for is upset at us
also he wants us to suspend grading until we can pick up some notes from him this afternoon and that means we won't be able to do any grading today at all and augh
this is sufficiently discouraging that
mh-, career stuff, future, finances, we're just a mess
i don't knwo what to do
it feels like we can barely even manage a 10 or 15 hour work week
how are we going to survive going forward
we make barely enough right now for rent and groceries and a *little* bit of fun stuff on the side but we're currently working as a TA and being paid very well for the amount of work we do (compared to the general job market)
but we can't keep that position forever, once we graduate we go off to do something else and. what can we do that will make enough money to live but also not completely overwhelm us with responsibility
