Video game music thing, #14: Music Featuring Vocals

Normally, we can't stand music with vocals, especially English vocals.

This is the one exception we've found: the track Advanced Wind, from the soundtrack to Wild Arms 3, composed by Michiko Naruke and sung by Samantha Newark. It's rare for a dubbed version of an originally Japanese song to sound good at all, but this one blows the competition out of the water!

The lyrics are all relevant to what the game is about, in ways that you don't even realize until you learn more about the game's world... Even though we only got the one version of the opening here in the US, rather than the four different verses in Japan, it doesn't feel like anything is missing.

Video game music thing, #13: Music You Like from a Game You Don't Like

We're not too big on sports games in general. This is a game we don't like, but not a game we *dislike*; it's just not our thing. Hopefully that's okay!

The track in question is Game Point - Break Point 2 from Mario Tennis, which some absolute genius decided to have Motoi Sakuraba compose the soundtrack for.

Since it's a game we don't particularly like, I'm afraid we don't have much to go on for any further commentary, though!

@DecimalRandom@snouts.online @DarkOverord have either of you seen Connie or Metro today? I'm probably catastrophising because of lots of other stress today but we haven't heard from them at all and it's an hour and a half past the scheduled stream time and i'm worried about them now

mh-

i hate when stuff like this happens and our stress gets really out of control

knowing that something is happening soon but not knowing when is a special kind fo hell

they said we'd hear back about whether we got the job "early next week" and it's already 4:30 on tuesday.... getting that "thing is supposed to happen very soon but you don't know when" stress now

...also @connie's stream was supposed to start half an hour ago and we haven't heard from them at all so we're worried about them too now even though it's probably nothing
-F

@connie Is there going to be a stream today? I haven't seen anything about it and you usually post something in advance.

terrible idea: play mario 64 but every time you enter a level immediately lock the camera and leave it there

remember to drink plenty of genderfluids if you're ever feeling dehydrated (i.e. feeling unfortunately single-headed)

Well, we just slept for over twelve hours. How is your morning?

if singleton is a word, why isn't doubleton? or tripleton?

idea for an obscure joke i don't have the spoons to make

as noted in the aside there though, Sony's collaborative formats seem to do well for themselves pretty reliably. The CD-DA (aka audio CD), CD-ROM, and CD-R were unmitigated successes, the DVD and DVD-ROM were similarly massive successes

Historically, Sony's major solo formats seem to have alternated successful and failure--Umatic was a success, at least in the market it was intended for, then beta was a failure, then 3.5" floppy disks were a huge success, then memory stick flopped horribly, then blu-ray managed to somehow beat out hd-dvd

(Sony was involved with the creation of the CD and DVD formats but i'm not counting them because sony didn't do them alone, Philips and Panasonic did a lot of the engineering and marketing)
-F

why was sony so insistent on referring to the memory cards as specifically "Memory Card (8 MB) (For Playstation™ 2)"

We went out to the middle of nowhere to try to see the comet. We either succeeded in seeing it, very faintly, or we had a smudge on our binoculars' lenses.

I'm not sure which, honestly. The viewing conditions around here are not great; lots of forest in the way and a fair bit of light pollution.

social, mh

why do we parse most standard smileys as really passive-aggressive and condescending

thi sis almost never what they are used to mean
-F

"What is a man? A mis--"

"A featherless biped, Dracula, we've been over this."

"Why did one of my zombies have to be Diogenes? Richter, look, would you just kill this zombie for me and then we can get down to business?"

We see a lot of UFOs, but it's not that there are lots of aliens visiting, we're just really bad at identifying birds
