something that is not elastic is efirstic

apparently it's not as commonly known as we'd thought that diamond is actually an absurdly good thermal conductor, so now you know that too!

few things are known that have a higher thermal conductivity than diamond, among them are graphene and, as long as the crystal is relatively defect-free (which is actually *really difficult*), boron arsenide

dymalloy is a really neat thing

it's an alloy of 20% copper, 80% silver, and <1% tiny diamonds dispersed through it

It's absurdly expensive but it also has among the highest thermal conductivity of anything workable at over 400 W/m·K, even higher than pure copper

it's about ½ to ⅓ as conductive as pure diamond but a) pure diamond is orders of magnitude more absurdly expensive than dymalloy and b) it's not workable, you can't machine it

After revealing itself though, it *can* capture pieces of *either* color, but no longer follows the commands of its disguise color. the fact that it can only move as its disguise color is to prevent a game from starting out with one king effectively in check

i guess it also can't reveal itself by taking the king because that would just be rude

Rosemary had a neat idea the other day for a chess variant and since zhe doesn't seem to feel up to posting it ever (zhe has the worst social anxiety of all of us, i think), i will mention it here:

Consider a normal game of chess, except at the start of the game, each player gets to replace any one of the opponent's pawns with an infiltrator, which acts exactly like a pawn except that at any time the opponent can choose to take control of it (it still moves like its disguised color)

the fact that there are two different companies that make capacitors called (three letter acronym) Corporation just feels weird for some reason

if you're wondering they're TDK Corporation and AVX Corporation, both make pretty good quality ceramic and film capacitors

we have realized today that we have no intuitive sense of how bright a candela is and it's a problem because we need to figure out how low a current we can run this LED at and have it still be visible
-F

what happened to double-source FETs with current sensing? we just learned that those exist and they seem really useful; the sense source has a defined proportion of the area of the power source, so you know that it'll get an exact proportion of the current to within manufacturing tolerances--so you can use a simple current sense circuit that only needs to handle 1/100 your actual output current

but no one seems to make them anymore, they're all marked obsolete on digikey

it's only five pm but i think we are going to sleep because we're just way too tired
-F

i seriously think we just don't know how to not be stressed anymore

apparently the MSDS for some hand sanitizers has directions to wash thoroughly with water if you get it on your skin, and dispose of any contaminated clothing

things we like about oregon, a non-exhaustive list
- you can get an X on your driver's license here (we did, havne't gotten the license yet though)
- the pharmacy sells non-gendered multivitamin supplements (why is this uncommon, seriously)
