Yo they were supposed to be a wing of the hitler youth according to their founder, so like that rally was entirely appropriate to their stated purpose.

@typhlosion check out Baden-Powell and his connections to fascism.

@Fuego uh. all i could find was that he kinda liked early mussolini and that he put swastikas on a couple of the badges before the nazis really coopted that symbol (and then took them off after)
nowhere did i find him saying that this organization he had founded over thirty years ago ought to be a fucking hitler youth wing

@typhlosion when o get a chance to dig through my book shelf I'll send you a bibliography
@Fuego
the BSA was started in 1910
@Mobius this is not a mitigating factor. Check out the life of Robert Baden-Powell and the history of the scouting movement.
@Fuego
I remember this being brought up while I was in the BSA. the jury's out on whether he was a Nazi sympathiser or a fan of Rudyard Kipling. Either way, the BSA stopped using the swastika symbols after the Nazi party appropriated it.
@Mobius the swastika use at the time is questionable but he certainly publicly espoused fascism and fascist ideals for children
@Fuego
I didn't realize some of this history, admittedly.
but I can tell you, BSA now is a wholly different animal. Remember the protests over the leaders making it anti-gay? Thousands of people turning in eagle badges, including myself.

@Fuego i can't find anything attesting that. i thought scouting started in the early early 1900s inspired by the british army in south africa
