shitpost about fictional canons (contains Star Wars continuity spoilers)
I know it must sell better with movie audiences, but why reduce subtle mystic and magic systems to singular, measurable points of blunt omnipotent power? Or... okay, I just answered my own question, didn't I.

Timothy Zahn continuity: The Emperor was subtly influencing troop morale and communication through the Force, and was instrumental to military outcomes before his death. We need a new Jedi order to improve morale and to impose military tactics and combat superiority in his absence.
Episode 9 continuity: haha Force lightning go brrrr
nerding about fiction
Reading/rereading through books in the Star Wars Extended Universe (now, Legends) is reminding me just how much of a soft spot I have for mundane stories set in high fantasy/science fiction settings.
Instead of Jedi coming-of-age power fantasies, give me the routine day of a baker, a scrap dealer, or a speeder bike technician on an alien world. What does that look like?
Our servers have caught up with the demand from our new denizens and account migrations, and I just negotiated a new contract with our hosting provider that has effectively doubled our capacity.
In other words, ✨Plush✨ City just solved its traffic problem and has plenty of move-in-ready cybrehomes available for any soft friends (or allies of soft friends!) in need of one. ![]()
💜 to folks that put in the work each day and manage to stay sane and good to their users.
If you can, please let your local smaller instance mods know you appreciate them today.
It's valid to be angry when mods in larger instances breach the trust of their users. But reminder: there are plenty of folks that do yeoman's work each day to keep their users safe and handle disputes that you never see. Many of whom are probably feeling caught in the crossfire and undervalued by folks dunking on Fedi after putting in the work.
Reminder that this work is hard. And it's worth it.
vrchat, synths, cyberpunk, pfaf
High density, brutalist neon glow mixed with equal parts nature and ingenuity is an oddly specific vision of reality that we should have right now, and I miss it without it (yet) having come into being.

Visited a fully realized cyberpunk world in VRChat yesterday designed by folks in the synth and furry communities there, and I have never experienced such specific nostalgia for a time and place that hasn't existed yet: https://www.vrchat.com/home/launch?worldId=wrld_424c75c2-533c-4922-be0d-cd13c6aa6d6f&instanceId=5268~public

@mawr @Kyresti Since I live by an honest-to-goodness forest: check their water level as the more likely culprit.
Checking on the trees here, there are no signs of them thinking the smoke is autumnal weather... yet. But the smaller ones are terribly thirsty, and in immediate view, only smaller vegetation is feeling that so far.
@Kyresti Kind of, yeah.
I think it helps that the folks running Blaseball aren't as heavily leaning on fan creations for the core work, so much as votes and RNG, while fostering a separate community. Though to be fair, that's kind of how MSPA started off.
If anything, though, I'm reminded a bit more of the game Blood Bowl.
