another dreamthing, dragons, tf-adjacent

Continuing the tradition of my weekly sleeping-in-on-Saturdays giving really cool dreams:

This one was heroic coming-of-age story. Most of the details were pulled from other identifiable sources, but the main protag is cool enough to write out.

They're a gender-ambiguous (female-leaning) person who discovered they could shapeshift by accidentally becoming their own (adorably small, anthro orca-dragon) OC. They quickly identified they could become anything else they wanted within the same approximate mass range, with a catch: they need to actively focus on it.

Their personality is distinct enough that I need to noodle on it a bit more to describe them well. The villain also had vague ideas on how they work and may point to other-than-human origins.

While the dream had them doing hero things, they're more into chilling out to chiptunes, signalwave/vaporwave, and playing variations on 80s and 90s videogames with friends.

They also chose a name for themselves, but it has a conflict with someone I know, so I'll need to find a good alternative for them. Still, very neat little fictionthing.

(Also meant to post this earlier, but lots of random other things happened in the meantime.)

@kat Echoing what others have said: setting a sane per-hour rate is a good starting point, and you can probably charge more given the quality of what you're posting here.

Also interested!

Group commission I'm in with @kistaro, @Goldkin, @Veladynee, and some other folks that aren't on Mastodon AFAIK.

We're spaceship dragons! NYOOOOM! :dragn_mlem:

All browser prompts need a "Lie" function in addition to Allow and Block.

@qdot Ouch. Same thing happened to @Veladynee. I gave bad advice on using lens wipes and the plastic lenses and seal really didn't like it.

We'll definitely be interested in hearing if aftermarket lenses are better.

dream nonse

This is a few days after a different stranger in a dream said this when I asked them why they do what they do:

"I am you. You have agency here. I'm just part of the script."

Then I woke up.

Either I have very coherent dream gremlins, or someone has a fun sense of humor.

A stranger in a dream posed a good question to me right before I woke up:

"Why do many cultures have specific names for gremlins and monsters, yet Florida has no (specific) terms for the time it takes for hurricanes to make landfall?"

... huh.

re: starbase game, ship design WIP

While this is already fairly elaborate, you can bet I will try to design a space dragon in this game.

starbase game, ship design WIP

I wanted to learn how ship design worked in Starbase, so I decided to build an Arwing. The WIP looks pretty neat so far:

re: video game edge cases, wondering about

@Felthry Sourcing that directly from the text of the second Bulbapedia article I linked above and what I vaguely remember from Pokemon stat calculation formulas when reading Smogon, but the page sources a few other links in the notes.

video game edge cases, wondering about

@Felthry Assuming the moves have the same priority (m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w ), the calculation typically happens at the start of the turn, before moves can apply any modifiers.

Some caveats apply described in m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/w . Mega Evolution preempts the start of turn calculation, and presumably so do stat and move changes derived from Dynamax/Gigantamax as well.

@qdot I just finished this game myself, and whew, the writing pulls no punches. Not saying more to not spoil it.

I streamed a tiny art game for @Veladynee over the weekend that contains, among other things, cute carpet dragons that you can pet and one giant snake friend.

We were a bit surprised carpet dragon OCs aren't a thing yet: m.youtube.com/watch?v=aBGBQsaC

@Felthry Vaati. Canonically of course, but more for this non-canon appearance: figmentforms.tumblr.com/post/6

Second-best: Hylia. While it's all off-camera and only given in Skyward Sword, pretty sure she knows exactly what she's doing and manipulates the setting in many arcs convincingly, especially in OoT hero survives timeline. That we think she's "good" is part of that arc (Two Rulers also heavily explores this theme).

PS: weighted companion cube Prompto is literally the best thing, and I did not know how badly I needed it in my life.

ffxv replay, nonse

Finally sitting down to replay the game. I'd had a large stack of mods I downloaded over the years, and I forgot I left them enabled during the opening cutscenes.

Apparently Lunafreya is being supported by Power Rangers Red and Blue. Prompto is now a highly animate weighted companion cube. And all of the cars are full of sapient cactuars.

Everyone continued to act as if the situation was deadly serious.

... I couldn't stop laughing for a good 5 minutes.
