Try not to Uber on May 8, 2019, because Uber drivers are striking that day.

open request to talk, not a subtoot
Also, I’m opening up to talk if folks want to, especially ahead of a major convention.
I’ve lost touch with a bunch of folks due to lack of time and emotional energy over the past couple years. If you’d like to assess where things are, to ping me for a status update, or to conspire on convention plans, feel free to DM me.
When AI is asked to get to the finish line, it tends to build a very tall robot that gets there by falling over.
I copied that strategy and almost broke Simone Giertz's robot workshop. (Sorry!)

Jack, keep the spambots, my follower numbers are dying.
...
Uh.
Um.

*quiet screaming*

I think I’ll keep using Masto as my primary, yeah.
re: birdsite
I often quip that my primary motivator is to make exciting things boring (I write security hardening software). I never thought I’d need to advocate so strongly for that in discussion software, too.
re: birdsite, pol-adjacent
Update: just read that Jack and Twitler sat down for a meeting today to discuss “the health of the public conversation on Twitter”. Not touching Twitter again in light of that news.
The knight and the dragon fought.
"Hold!" the princess called. "Why do you fight?"
They looked ashamed, and the princess spotted two trampled bouquets.
"Were those for me?"
The knight and the dragon nodded.
"Girls," the princess said, smiling at them, "what if I date you both?"

Last week I saw someone recommend rev.com as a way to make money from home by transcribing. Skeptical, I had a look to see if they were legit, and they seemed to be, so I signed up.
There's a small grammar and English quiz, and then a transcription test, to apply. If successful, you can see client transcription jobs and their pay-per-minute, choose whichever jobs you like, work as much/little as you want.

I worked casually for a week, had some very interesting jobs across a variety of fields, some of which were entertaining and educational, and made just shy of $300.
They pay every Monday into PayPal. I wanted to make sure I got paid before sharing it here, just in case - but I got paid today. Hurrah!
So yeah, they're legit. You need to be a decent typist with a good grasp of English language and grammar. They also offer translation jobs.
Sharing for those who can do it and need work. :)

Just as a sample, I've typed up things like teachers meetings re. education in the US, devs talking about cloud computing and blockchain, meetings about disabled access to transport in the US, an interview with Idris Elba, talks about value/worth of drug treatments, a gaming session with a DM and players, interviews with skilled professionals talking about their fields, interviews discussing Apartheid and racism in South Africa...
