Lewis Hamilton has finally signed his new contract with Mercedes but it's only for one year

I wonder if he wants to go out, break some records, and then retire while he's on top...

@witchfynder_finder people keep saying that he's gonna retire but I don't see it. dude's 36 years old and on top of the world. I mean it's hard to predict shit like this but I could see him sticking around in F1 (and winning) for another decade.

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun Oh, don't get me wrong, I would NOT complain if he stuck around! I'm mostly just spitballing tbh

@witchfynder_finder also (disclaimer i don't watch F1 or pay much attention to what goes on in Euro open wheel racing) I figure the reason it's a single year contract is because he wants options. as a talent like that on a short contract he has a lot of bargaining power

@InTheLandOfTheRisingSun That's theoretically possible, but Mercedes is absolutely the top of the pack right now, especially after Ferrari had a DISASTROUS season in 2020. There are new regulations going into effect this season and starting to hit harder in 2022, so I guess it's not entirely out of the question that he might want to move around, but right now Mercedes is absolutely the team to be on

@witchfynder_finder fair enough. I think just the threat of him going to another team could be good enough to get him a few extra bucks from Merc when silly season comes around
