trans women in sports, extremely long toot
So since there's been a lot of discourse about trans women in sports lately (EVEN THOUGH CASTOR SEMENYA IS A CIS WOMAN AAAAAAA), I feel like I should bring this up. Male to female trans women do *not* have an advantage in competitive sport. Let's take one big point that gets made a lot, the one about trans women having bigger skeletons. Trans women also have similar or *less* muscle mass than cis female athletes, so they're moving around *more* mass that they can't get rid of than cis female athletes. Another argument that I've also seen made and seems exceedingly idiotic for multiple reasons is that men have more of certain kinds of nutrients and cells in their bloodflow, which, sure, is true. BUT the blood you're born with absolutely doesn't stay with you forever, and even if it did there's no clear advantage to having a blood makeup that's similar to a biological male, beyond a *possible* *slight* increase in the amount of oxygen your blood can move. And then, coming back to Castor Semenya (WHO STILL ISNT A TRANS WOMAN AAAAAAAAA), there's testosterone. Trans women DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT have more testosterone than cis women. They have LESS testosterone than cis women. Wanna know why? It's because trans women, as part of HRT, take something called androgen blockers. These block the production and effects of male hormones (such as testosterone), in the body, to increase the effectiveness of simultaneous estrogen treatment. Now, can we FUCKING PLEASE stop pretending that trans women have some kind of advantage in *any* sports?
