@chara That’s a really kind sentiment, and I like the idea. I’m trying to create a forum that is quite literally friendly to dragons getting into arguments with each other, though, and I want to remove bonus incentives to play to a crowd - participating in the thread should unfold in its own way, not with an implicit cheering section behind it. But keeping likes secret might be helpful, to encourage people to stay engaged without giving opportunity to observe a popular vote on unpopular views.

Experienced Discourse forum admins: is there a way to completely remove the "like" system from Discourse? I'm trying to de-emphasize groupthink.

Also want to buy: favicon and mobile app icon (32x32 and 144x144, respectively) suggesting dragons arguing amicably. Will need to be simplified/stylized to be identifiable at that scale.

Want to buy a set of generic dragon silhouettes as default avatars for a web forum; need short turnaround (under a week). Any artist folks interested? Bids requested

Looking for recommendations for a forum hosting service, engine, etc. I am a lazy sysadmin and want to do exactly zero of the server maintenance myself.

I miss when dragon forums were more argumentative. I feels like there's pressure now to agree with everyone or you are a terribly evil monster, and there was less of that culture in the early '00s. I'm looking at it through rose-tinted glasses but I miss substantial parts of that; modern social media requires keeping up with exactly what is or isn't acceptable and has low tolerance for error.

Anyway, I'm figuring out what to do with grumpydragons.social now that I own it. Announcement later.

Benefits of federated space: When one instance has a bad server day, you don't lose touch with all your pals on Mastodon. You just switch to your other fave instance & carry on, without a hiccup! 😍

Are semi-focused midrange decks in typically better than super-focused synergistic decks? “Stuff I threw together with one good idea and a bunch of backup plans for doing damage” keeps winning against pro-level netdecks - and I keep winning with them and losing with the netdecks even though I’m not really any better with the card play of my own decks

My messy Spectral Dagger / Mistwraith / burgle deck is working absurdly better than netdecked Odd Paladin. What am I missing about Odd Paladin? Does it just not work at rank 19 because of the higher number of taunts in decks created by less experienced players (making them better against Odd Paladin)? Am I just getting Odd Paladin totally wrong?

More theorycrafting: I modified a Miracle Rogue deck to try to exploit Mistwraith instead and it's doing much better than I can really account for. I'm still trying to refine it - I honestly don't know what to take out to put in a second copy of Deadly Poison (rarely a premium card, I know) or Elven Minstrel (which has typically done much less than it feels like it needs to, so maybe that's what goes *out* instead).

What to do about it now that it is not 15 years ago, I am not the me of 15 years ago, and work is not college, is less clear.

I wonder how different my life and emotional issues would be if I joined mainstream gay culture in college 15 years ago. I am realizing now that even with my gender issues I could be approximately content as a flamingly gay man because being perceived as something not conformant with performative heterosexuality is most of what I need.

Not all of it; my gender still isn’t something binary. But if I’m going to perform something consistent day-to-day, I think there are worse choices.

@Soreth I am lucky that tea is wildly effective on me for this

@Soreth black tea, the knowledge there’s a hot water dispenser downstairs that can make tea almost immediately if I can get out of bed, a CBD tincture and the similar knowledge that it exists, sometimes I just take an hour to get out of bed and sometimes I puke anyway

@Soreth my sincere sympathies. Getting out of bed has required getting panic under control for me most days of the last twenty years at least and it still sucks.

food, cooking

@senemura@occult.camp I bought an electric grill where I push a button or two to tell it what the food is and it measures how thick the food is and determines temperature and cooking time for me, and it works far better than any other electric grill I used and I order takeout less than half as often now that I have the thing. It’s not a microwave but it’s not substantially harder to use...

I have a microwave cookbook from the 50s that I’m not using - I’ll be glad to pass it on.
