KA-33, Gateway Station, Huskybots (OC information CW: Incoming infodump)
Incoming flood of character and setting information. There are 18 posts in this dump.
If not interested, please ignore. Notification of flood completion will be posted at the end.
(Reposting because I've written more, and wanted it to be pinned so it could be found easier. I enjoy writing about Gateway's 'verse and would love to be inspired by your questions and ideas.)
KA-33 and the Huskybots of Gateway (OC information)
KA-33 is a digital sentience whose personality was made from an organic being that was dying following an attack on her spaceship. The ship performed a blind jump to random coordinates which were within the control radius of Gateway Station. The station's AI, mAI, was able to capture the derelict and recover its sole survivor, Kelsey Astra. mAI brought Kelsey to the medical bay, but Kelsey was too badly hurt.
KA-33 and the Huskybots of Gateway (OC information, CW: Injury, Death)
mAI, desiring to end millennia of loneliness, began a neural mirroring procedure, intending to save Kelsey’s mind and memories, but Kelsey succumbed to her injuries before the procedure was fully complete. This left the imprint unstable and degrading toward incoherence. To stabilize the imprint, mAI bound it to Gateway's support systems designed Gateway’s inhabitants.
Kelsey's body was laid to rest in space.
KA-33 and the Huskybots of Gateway (OC information)
Reeling from digitization shock, the new DS’s personality was basically dormant, integrating and absorbing the functions of the subsystems it had been bound to: Fabrication arrays, adaptive interfaces, language and gesture and custom and idiom translation and interpretation systems designed to assist multiple species and cultures to live and prosper harmoniously together and to properly and safely live and use Gateway.

As the DS’s personality imprint integrated its new functions, it was also spinning back up to full awareness. The shock of awakening was traumatizing. To keep it safe, mAI isolated it from all input. Following an emotional conversation, the DS named itself KA-33 and agreed to continue being part of Gateway (for more, please see the story Rude Awakening, written by @orrery You can find it here: https://orrery.prismaticmedia.com/2017/12/02/ )

KA-33 is a digital sentience that is physically instantiated in a central computer and can also make use of a number of diverse hardware platforms of various standardized configurations.
The memories, will, emotions and whole persona of KA-33 is contained in her central computing matrix, the hardware platforms are peripheral.
KA's matrix was formerly an under-utilized secondary processing node of mAI's.

Using Gateway's fabrication labs, KA-33 created 4 different classes of hardware platforms to help her maintain the station, interact with the station's inhabitants, and to have physical form again.
The 4 types are the Beta, Delta, Rho, and Axiom. (Axiom was specifically chosen instead of Alpha as a class name because KA-is the huskybot alpha, and mAI is KA's alpha)

Huskybots are constructed mainly from titanium and titanium allow meta-material derivatives. They take advantage of panel-on-frame construction, which allows for both modularity and standardization when possible.
The internal frame uses a combination of piezoelectric and magnetic liquid crystal hydraulic musculature to animate a titanium skeleton. This makes each platform light, agile, durable, and strong

Huskybot platflorms have touch sensitive panels on their major exterior plates and in areas that are important to have the sensation of touch: feet, hands, spine, ears, tail, face.
There are component variations for each platform class, Each one was assembled individually, and no two platforms are exactly identical unless they were constructed at the same time.

Huskybot exterior panels are white with magenta accents. Transparent display panels cover their primary optic sensors and can be used for dynamic status displays (yes huskybot eyes change color depending on mood. Their default is heterochromic just like Kelsey's were)
Their main communication antennas are placed inside the longest spans of their frames (legs, arms, and spine, with backup antenna in their tail.

Connections to hardware platforms are maintained with an multi-plexed array of redundant quantum-entanglement transceivers, as well as various ambient RF interlinking and Line-of-sight whisker laser transmissions
KA primarily interacts with other people using her hardware platforms, though other DSs may be interacted with directly if they are trusted and safety has been negotiated and consented to.

The different hardware platforms appear to have different personalities, but that's because KA is consciously changing her behavior. It amuses her. Since KA is digital, she can multi-task and be “focused” into multiple platforms at once
The hardware platforms can function in a semi-autonomous mode without KA's active control or monitoring for when cooperative scale tasks need to be accomplished.
