@anthracite crap, I'm gonna have to figure out how to cut patterns and sew, right?
@Leucrotta @anthracite Actually my source for vinyl (heavy duty bowling/costume type vinyl) that I am using to make my suit is great because the edges are so beautiful after cutting them that I don't think you'd *have* to sew it. You could glue it to a mask form with strong glue. (Though I do sew it, because I have a beast of a sewing machine and love to sew.)
If you want to toss around some ideas I'd be game, look at https://www.fabricempire.com/ which is my source for cosplay and fursuit materials lately. I might have a coupon for them if you want to order a sample book.
@eredien @anthracite hey thanks!
@Leucrotta @anthracite Tomorrow I'm going through my fabrics and in theory should be able to find my fabric swatches of the green scaly vinyl and the pink sparkly vinyl so I can show you the backing and the edge.
@Leucrotta @anthracite For exampl
e here is a picture of Japanese wrestler El Desperado's mask, see how though some of it looks heat-formed the edges are just laser cut not necessarily sewn?
@eredien @anthracite but, also I should know how to use a sewing machine or how to handstitch stuff, I feel like it's a major failing on my part.
@Leucrotta @anthracite it's definitely a skill I picked up at the expense of some other skills I would also have liked to have (for instance I didn't teach myself archery or how to hunt for food). I find these tradeoffs happen more as you get older.
FWIW I'm not a good hand-sewer but I love to sew on my machine. The two are not always mutually exclusive but I figure if the mellow and affable PBS "Sewing with Nancy" Nancy can get away with hosting like 20 years of a sewing show and then admit that she is no good at hand sewing, there is hope for me.
@Leucrotta @anthracite Come to think of it, I don't even know if those are lasercut. Vinyl might give off some kind of chemical when heated, and you could get that kind of cut easily with sharp scissors or a rotary cutter.
@Leucrotta @anthracite Following up on that: can't find my coupon (yet) but is there any swatches you want to order? I'm doing a swatch order myself and I can add on some for you and re-mail. #coyoteazul
@eredien asking to hold off for me, for now - I haven't further researched how I could make this actually work, and feel I need to do a little bit more studying first.
@Leucrotta A-ok.
probably!
One tip I've heard is just make little paper models to start with, like the equivalent of a thumbnail sketch except 3d and with tape/glue/etc. Once it starts to work then scale it up and start making a model that actually works on, like, your head, then use THAT as your pattern, instead of trying to jump directly to the final fabric.
@Leucrotta I'm now imaging a person wearing a Chesperito outfit going "fuck you, it's a bee outfit"
@Leucrotta If you are serious about this I would love to help you make/design #coyote #azul mask!
@Leucrotta
This works.
