Trying to see intelligence in work settings as analogous to athletic ability. I'm an okay swimmer, pretty good if you put a foil in my hands, very good if you put a rifle or bow in my hands. But I can't ski and if I don't think I'd win swimming competitions.

@Leucrotta And managerial culture is so ACTIVELY AND ENTHUSIASTICALLY dumb at ignoring those distinctions, and using its own power to just bulldoze through any of the problems that ignorance causes -- and blaming anybody but itself -- instead of FUCKING FIXING them.

@zebratron2084 what really discourages me at THIS job is they say there are all these resources here for me like the guidelines (which are unclear), the Slack coaching channel (which I'm supposed to check guidelines first and sometimes my questions are ignored), and a senior coworker (who tells me to check guidelines and that I am asking stupid self-evident questions I should know answers to).

And, with favoritism skewing work, I'm never sure if it's just something I innately CAN'T get or not.

@Leucrotta This just sounds so fucking broken to me. We have a lot of similar issues with vague guidelines and stuff... but our management is EXTREMELY responsive to issues, even if it's just friendly commiseration and "yeah, we are getting around to fixing that, it's not you, we promise." The damage sounds less and less like it's starting on your end.

@zebratron2084 there’s stuff to say about other (preferred) coworkers Getting His Logic where I don’t, my skills as writer or instructor never being given a chance, and that fitting terribly into being trained that I am unvalued and disposable because I’m dumb and ugly and unlikable. But it’s not coherent, so can I just scream wordless rage and instead?
