tonight's project is making harissa. So far I've improvised a mortar and pestle and set off the Using the Oven Alarm. This is the first time I've roasted red pepper. I think in the future, I'm gonna just buy the premade from Trader Joe's, which among other things should keep from setting off the Using the Oven Alarm.

@Leucrotta That looks like it's just Flavor Liquid, nnnghn. Here's hoping the noise was worth it!
re: Food photo
@LexYeen the Ottolenghi cookbook I'm using has it as a rub for fish. Last night I prepped golden beets to use in the beet salsa and tonight I made this stuff so I'm apparently doing a waaaaaay longer version of the process than the cookbook!

@Leucrotta If there's one thing I've learned from chemical cooking, it's that good things come to those who take their time. Hngh. I'm *drooling* here.
@Leucrotta Safety check to consider: How old is your Using the Oven Alarm? Average useful lifespan's about eight to ten years, due to various detector failure modes - the most interesting of which, to me at least, is radioactive source decay to the point its output always falls within the range the detector is set to trigger due to smoke absorbing said particles.

Aaaand… homemade Tunisian pepper paste!
