it's the same thing as looking at photos of concentration camps and lynchings and the ghost dancers lying in the snow banks. same damn thing. Same damn thought process motivates it.

and I wish there were a way to HURT these creatures RIGHT BACK in any sort of meaningful way that would get them to FUCKING STOP, but there isn't. All you can do is watch the casualties mount up and be glad it's only sometimes it's an Asian or a Black or a Queer or a Jew or a protester instead of dozens of coyotes or whatever

I came home after today's in person and haven't left home since, but took two naps and a couple of rinse off showers to feel less bad. Listening to Steeleye Span for comfort.

phone screen 2 never bothered calling (checked recents, was right by phone) but I left voice mail for them and responded to their email about how we'd missed each other and would I like to reschedule. I think, with a little wrapping up email, that makes me done for the day.

@frostwolf It's nuanced - the classic stories that made the comic really point out that it's a flawed system with flawed enforcers. But it's comics, so there are writers who definitely portray the cops as good.

If you've never seen them, they're British comics in which the police ("Judges") are brutal all-in-one law enforcers, so the titular character is a lot more of an antihero who occasionally actually truly *does* protect the city where he lives ("Mega City One," which is the entire east coast in the future).

One repeated threat are "the Dark Judges," from a parallel dimension, who were once similar Judges there and completely executed everyone in their world under the assumption that *everyone* was a potential criminal.

let me guess, that *is* an actual reference to the SS, and it's just cool with/actively promoted by YouTube.

Given that Zootopia was about “racism is bad,” I figure Zootopia II will be about “homophobia is bad actually”promptly followed by Disney contributing to horrifically homophobic politicians.

This feels more likely than “Judge Judy goes to Brit-Topia,” “Judge Cal takes over the ZPD and deputizes alligators,” or “Judge Judy faces the Dark ZPD.”

The player characters go on the epic journey to the land of the dead to jack their shit, because that’s where the *best* stuff is. The people who are annoyed with them are just like, you know, the gods, the families of the deceased, that sort of thing.

Man, I wish *I* were a pastel colored very Gay furry living in an apparently post scarcity accepting society. Major bummer.

Reading about Mycenaeans, I’m struck by how the rulers are “wanax,” but lower ranking landowners are called “basileis” (sic).

@Yotenotes I feel like it got a lot more openly bigoted. Maybe having a Black president really DID break them at some level, that it was some sort of sign their stranglehold would go away if they didn’t really push back. The code words and dog whistles are basically gone now.

When I was a kid politics was really different! The right wanted kind of cruel and greedy things, but made it sound good by claiming to be about fiscal responsibility, honesty, and hard work, a little like how the ACW was about states’ rights. And the left who protested, sometimes died, and were ridiculed for wanting to spend money on ideas like “maybe women are human” or “maybe we shouldn’t kill people abroad for no real reason.” BUT NOW times have changed and…
