Tonight’s #drawing actually wasn’t inspired by general dislike of Nazis. Instead I was listening to a John Williams soundtrack with very stereotypical cues for either 1) soldiers cocking an MG34 or 2) a theropod in pursuit, so I decided to draw exactly that. Hence the Raiders-esque German dialogue!

@KronoGarrett I mean every decade sets up the next right? But I’m more thinking about the superficial stuff. All of us came out of the 80s, for the first time since the younger boomers were kids we couldn’t all die at once at any time, we’d been lied to and were maybe just figuring out how much, etc.

the urge to rant about how the 90s were just plain *weird*; the cold war was over, the nightmares of 9/11 and later lay ahead, and a generation traumatized by nuclear fears and AIDS collectively wondered what to do.

Being nostalgic for the 90s is a little like missing suburban Ohio now that you live in East Oakland, or wishing your nightmares would let up so you could dream about the parking lot at Safeway. It's that sort of "well it wasn't THIS bullshit, but it wasn't actually good either."

it's like hanging with well meaning but obese and clumsy friends who accidentally step hard on your toes all the time, because you *and* they are both stuck with jerks who aren't as well meaning, who hope that intentionally stomping your toes will drop you so they can kick in your ribs.

Also, the reminder that while drawing, walking, food, etc. won’t necessarily make me feel 100% better they do make me feel better thus it’s important that I do them

Really hit with; the easiest dopamine hits are either having something actually fun to think about, or something personal to feel good about, and that second is a lot less likely if I’m in a self hating headspace enough to dismiss any possible positive about myself… which was way more likely earlier in my life.
