having watched the Desert Chase sequence enough to know exactly the points in the soundtrack when someone says SCHEISSE

I'm now remembering watching Raiders with my grandparents and there were enough old German speakers in that chunk of FL at the time that they bleeped the word

the Ark continually emits a low menacing hum ("zamzom mayim namoch"), says so in Leviticus

I can't believe I attempted to read Hebrew just to make that joke

Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack, movie quote, all caps, large bearded dudes

"CAIRO! CITY OF THE LIVING, A PARADISE ON EARTH!"

"I knew the Germans would hire you, Sallah, you're the beardiest loudest digger in all Cairo."
"MY SERVICES ARE ENTIRELY INCONSEQUENTIAL! THEY HIRE ONLY STRONG BACKS AND THEY PAY ONLY PENNIES FOR THEM! IT'S AS IF THE PHARAOHS HAD RETURNED!"

re: caps

@Oneironott *gives you a small cup of ice, and watches for about the next 45 minutes*

I was GOING to say "Indiana Jones and the Ship of Sand" where he races to excavate what's obviously Mound I at Sutton Hoo despite heavy rain and before war stops all excavation and instead big anti glider trenches go through the site, but it turns out Netflix already dramatized it!

@GraySpots I mean, there's Sir Arthur Evans, Flinders Petrie and Yigal Yadin, but none of them are currently around.

@wolfteeth I was thinking more about the cool bits of archaeology, like the tendency of Celts to dump stuff in bogs all over Europe.

@GraySpots So would I! Outside of a friend making snide comments about Indy 5, I was thinking of someone's tweets about the scene where Indy explains the staff of Ra, the Map Room, and Tanis, and how it's actually pretty exciting despite not being the big payoff scenes. That and Indy nerding about Nazca lines in Indy 4.

Shadowrun allows players to experience fantasies like being a troll with a Gatling gun, or being able to afford an apartment on your own in Seattle.

Indiana Jones and the Awesome LaTene Sword We Found in this Bog. Featuring exactly no chases or Nazi punching. It’s just Harrison Ford at dramatically shot and lit angles talking about this cool Iron Age stuff from a bog.

So if The Curse of Strahd is not actually foul language, what is it? It can’t possibly be “may green onions sprout from your pupik.”

@obscurestar that’s wild! Why would XY folks losing a Y chromosome be more at risk than XX folks who never had one to begin with? Bodies are fucking weird!

Again; part of why I hate rich people is that I can’t relate to their existence.

Rich people spending money b/c they want to see something in the ocean is something I relate to more than golf or private yachts or whatever. I “get” dying that way and it moves my POV to sympathy. These people died in a terrible way doing something THEY WERE CURIOUS ABOUT, and I really don’t like belittling their deaths because they were wealthy.

Last boost mentions Accadian root word so I wanted to shout out to @kurgarru as the local Assyriologist.

Rain Dog boosted

ok lol here's the actual etymology and I couldn't come up with anything like this if I tried

re: ukPol dePol Last Boost

@arakin Not really a surprise, conservatives the world over are the same people basically, they do the same stuff.

I think I don't dig nightmares with extra acid reflux wakefulness.

today a fire giant attacks two little intruders in his forge (I know incorrect lyrics to “Fatty Boom Boom”), and more small D&D characters, rangers (tabaxi and a goliath! With their death dog companion).
