rant the second, USpol, egregious anti-Blackness

Okay, so the overflowing colostomy bag that's governor of Florida (and maybe I shouldn't use that as an insult, since colostomy bags actually help people) is on about slavery being good because it taught people skilled trades like say smithing.

Okay so 1) I've heard the theory that slaves were chosen from the Ivory Coast because their knowledge of farming in similar climate and soil made them skilled labor ALREADY and whether that's true or not

2) you're implying that uncoerced Black people, actually free to pursue professions, would NOT pick up stuff like smithing or carpentry in the 17-1800s, which is completely unrealistic as well as racist and

3) you've just stated "learning a skill" is a good thing, which is way different than "having your entire cultural heritage dismantled, your family shattered, and never getting any real share of the wealth you helped produce because you're considered expendable." But given the Republican stance on worker rights in general I guess no Republican understands the difference between wage labor and slavery anyway.

Jesus, how fucking straight up evil can you get?

Rant re; “archaeologists will know your assigned birth gender” trope

See, what *I* get out of archaeology is that when we look to the past we see similar people. And one of those similarities is that there’s almost always some sort of trans thing going on. So please, DO gender every pelvis and mandible you find because you’re proving THAT point, not that it’s somehow violating some divine plan to transition.

Rant re; “archaeologists will know your assigned birth gender” trope

Let’s say, sake of argument, you can identify birth gender from remains 100% accurately. Bodies are only one way to study the past. Do you think in all those people at Canyon de Chelly, there were no nadleehi? Are you sure that apparently female Scandinavian buried with weapons presented as female? Do you really think medieval London wasn’t full of AMAB folks presenting female?

Star Wars is so 70s it’s got space truckers, an evil disco ball, and even smoking in restaurants if you count those dudes with the hookah in the Mos Eisley cantina. About the only thing it doesn’t have is roller skating rinks.

Gotta say “opera in midsummer evenings by the lake” sounds ridiculously good somehow.

@azeldraws right, once you tf people into cats you’ve got cats, so you may as well just go to the animal shelter, and want to adopt all the cats and you really can’t.

so glad that Barbie seems to be doing well enough at the box office they’re going to be able to make the second half of the novel where she drives the Harkonens from Arrakis and overthrows the Padishah Emperor

@D6016 nice! I like how it’s a less literal dog and more stylized toothy canine

on a kinda off day. Very non-Greek minotaur faces off against Greek adventurers, which I realize is kind of a trope. I was feeling especially stuck on doing recognizably Greek armor on the warrior until I realized I could draw the Dendra panoply and then I was STOKED. Cw eye contact, drawn human remains.

Most agree that the series really went off the rails in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 6, in which after murdering her treacherous mother on the advice of her father’s shade (see MBFGW 5), Toula (great granddaughter of the original character) is pursued from New York to “far flung Ypsilanti” by the vengeful Erinyes, who are pacified by being renamed “the kindly ones.”

analogies;

* being neuroatypical is like being a fish in a desert

* being a "gifted child" is like being handed a tightly sealed canteen with no information on what a canteen is or how to open it, by people who don't understand why a fish in a desert might be an issue, because after all they gave you plenty of water.

the theory that Spongebob Squarepants is a modern retelling of the Iliad sounds reasonable when you consider Patrick Star as Patroklos and Mr. Krabs and Pearl as Agamemnon and Iphigenia, but it quickly falls apart when comparing Plankton to Hector and Squidward to Telamonian Aias.

okay, I refueled the car, cleared email and applied for jobs, made soup for now and marinated spinach for later, cleaned out some fridge fossils to run the dishwasher later, applied for last week's UI (made too much to receive any but am required to submit), laundry's going. I'm now out of spoons.
