@Charlotte I missed a lot of it because I was desperately trying to be a good student at the time - I went to one rally in support of Israel (then being attacked as an attempt to pull pan-Arab sentiment) and that was it, my career protesting wasn't till later.

At the time I was also still coming out of a really conservative place, so even though *I* opposed the war and didn't like the fap fantasy, I parsed the media's INCREDIBLY hawkish coverage as normal. 30 years on, I'm shocked by it.

Dark times I’ve seen. Reading an old Dragon magazine from January ’92, and reminded that American reaction to the first Gulf War was this gross self righteous fap fantasy.

honestly I'd chalk up the initial lyric in "It's All Too Much" along with some of the other aspects of the song to how completely enthralled they were with how Hendrix's mixers played with stuff. I would NOT eliminate possibly they just grabbed a chunk of outtake they thought sounded neat.

suddenly the combination of "man the Peter Max art style for Yellow Submarine was awesome" "I want to play Werewolf the Apocalypse" suggests possibly the most fucked up Toon game ever

nowhere man, please listen
you don't know what you're missing
nowhere man, the world is at your command

listening to Nowhere Man - a song which reminds me of the area of A^2 around Tios, specifically - turns up that Tios somehow still exists, but the old location is long gone.

oh yeah, the Beatles' 1965 "Horrifying Misogyny" album! Every song on it is SO catchy and SO nightmarishly sexist!

@Charlotte no particular go to class - I love clerics, rangers and bards, but 5e is not kind to rangers and I was really loving rogue for a while. But halflings with their DEX and CHA bonuses are definitely my thing.

Ask me anything about D&D or my history playing it?

Gonna get out of here and eat enough weed to visit Barnard’s Star.

There’s one place where my Dad’s politics, usually slightly uncomfortable centrist, are distinctly right of mine. Talking about that isn’t comfy at all!

@topaz that looks like baked in grease. It’d be hard to get out without a really heavy duty scrubber but I don’t think having it there will hurt anything.

so nice that 6 months after Pride we get an Older Gay Bear holiday

Also the Scandinavian specialty store had this beautifully crafted axe hanging next to all the paintings of longships, presumably in case you get inspired to RAGING BESERKIRGANG among the shrimp sandwiches.

I went into this Scandinavian specialty store and, true to Sweden’s cultural heritage, they didn’t have the answer to why G-d remains silent.

the existence of a "powerbottom" implies similar sub genres such as "deathbottom," "folkbottom," and "stonerbottom"

@Querral oh, one of those "this will CHANGE THE WORLD" stories screenshot and shared around Bluesky. In this case, a startup eagerly trying how to figure out how to engineers could use lucid dreaming to code without having to be awake for it.

@LexYeen afaik;

* Octopus' Garden is literally the only Ringo song they ever released, they might have done others in rehearsal

* "Paperback Writer" came out of George daring Paul to write something which wasn't about a girl and it's still a please love me song

* John at least occasionally wrote songs so they'd be hard to parse.

stylistic breakdown of Beatles songs

Paul: there was a pretty girl and OH PLEASE LOVE ME I NEED YOU TO COMPLETELY ADORE ME

John: Oi, you think you've figured me out then m8? What d'ye reckon THIS is about then? You know bugger all!

George: we are not separate from the river of existence, only swimming against the current, futile as it is, creates that illusion

Ringo: I like duckies AND trains!
