is it just me or do you too imagine Sousa's mustache being animated to the music until it's a gigantic scribble that fills the screen?

a sumptuous late lunch of "gah I need to get all this stuff out of my fridge"

lest you were wondering;
* leftover roast sweet potato (with dried fig and balsamic vinegar)
* leftover Szechuan cucumber
* the tiny last bits of a cucumber salad
* half the remaining meatballs

I mean admittedly that presumes some sort of good faith argument about policemen, rather than trying to signal far-right-of-center politics and realizing that dropping ethnic slurs doesn't make you sound like the good guy. But hey, people think evangelical Christians are a persecuted religious group in this country so it's entirely possible they're sincere.

Imagine feeling the need to publicly display support for a persecuted group of employees who uh… have great salaries, pensions, benefits, robust unions, media support, and no legal accountability. It’s like if I felt the need to defend Britain’s Royal Family.

Temple of Doom does a happy ending instead; Indy wins but who cares? he doesn’t really resolve anything personal. Which is fun but not satisfying. Last Crusade works for me because it’s the formula; he doesn’t get the Grail or Ilse, but his father finally accepts him for who he is. And Crystal Skull tanks because it makes the formula Dad fantasy; instead of acknowledging Marion and Mutt as awesome in their own right, both of them wind up being subservient to Indy.

Was thinking about the Indiana Jones movies and; Raiders establishes a pattern where Indy doesn’t get what he wants (the Ark) but what he needs (resolution with Marion). Imho it also works because “barely escapes alive, uncredited” is sort of a film noir ending and the movie’s already established as an older genre pastiche.

I'm so fucking tired of living my entire life in somebody else's masturbatory fantasy and I can only assume that anyone younger than me, which is to say pretty much everyone reading this, feels the same goddamn way.

It's been a while since I posted a food photo, hasn't it? So here's some bok choy with mushrooms.

it's weird how, when I was a kid Dolly Parton was the blonde with huge knockers, now that I'm theoretically an adult she's some sort of paladin (presumably as painted by Larry Elmore, given the big hair), and it feels like people forgot her music is actually really good.

Weed is just a plot by Big Burrito to sell more burritos!

Listening to the Conan the Destroyer soundtrack and thinking it’s really too bad they never had Red Nails, The Tower of the Elephant and The Frost Giant’s Daughter as basis for a movie. If I can remember title and plot of a story I read as a kid, it was one of the good ones.

uspol adjacent opinion, transphobia

For obvious reasons I don’t watch Fox News and having now seen a clip of one of their stories about evil teachers grooming kids, I’ve now decided that when the current spike in transphobia gets someone killed, the victim isn’t necessarily going to be trans. Right wingers are really working themselves into a frenzy.

Til you can sing “cancel the sales order” to the “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” song from Nightmare Before Christmas.

notorious antisemite, “humor,” pretty good music tho

Doin’ my bit to posthumously piss Wagner off by listening to his music. When you consider Korngold and Lorin Maazel, I’m in real good company.

uspol adjacent opinion, transphobia

I worry that the only reason we haven’t had some transphobic mass shooting *yet* is that trans folks don’t have the equivalent to a synagogue/Gay nightclub/Asian spa/Sikh temple to target, but something similarly horrifying looms. And until then it’ll be the steady grind of murders and rapes swept under the rug by the media and police. Frankly I’m worried when we’re going to next have a mass shooting hate crime in general, everything feels primed for it.

Unfortunately I make mistakes sometimes, which I’d like to think is the sheer volume of material I handle rather than (my Dad’s and teachers’ often expressed opinion) I’m innately stupid or (my worry) I’m too ADHD and stuck doing stuff that honestly doesn’t appeal to me. In 7 months I’ve made two mistakes filling pick tickets for cigs and as luck would have it the mistake I made on a rush job was for a captain so sunny my coworker’s now referring to him as “Captain Ahab.”

Hey Masto, bet you can't guess who had really broken sleep last night and who doesn't want to work overtime *again* today at their day job nor do they want to see their parents this weekend?

"Oh. It's this way."
"He's remembered!"
"No. But it smells fouler here."
"That's all it does, is smell?"
"Oh, believe me, that's enough! But the worst thing is, if you so much as set a foot in Oira Saura Loica, the Bog of Stench, you'll smell bad for the rest of your life."

"It's a false alarm. You get a lot of them down in Moria."
"Oh can I please, it's been so long."
"Well all right, but don't expect us to take it seriously."
"Oh of course not. We have barred the gate but cannot hold for long. The ground shakes. Drums. Drums in the deep."

* Cate Blanchett * But they were all of them deceived. For in the land of Mordor, in the fires of Mount Doom, the Dark Lord Sauron forged another ring. And into this ring he poured his cruelty, his malice. One ring to rule them all. Please leave a contribution in the little box!
