Remembering more that I don’t need to figure all my shit out, so much as I need to recognize when I feel terrible because something’s stepped on my issues, determine if it’s stepping on my issues because of something actionable (quit a job, take a nap etc), and how to step back from it.

So I realized that I’d subverted a lot of things that I wanted into “I’m going to be a professional artist and things will be great.” Now that it looks less like I’ll go even semi professional as an artist and I‘ve done some heavy lifting in “yeah this is still meaningful,” I am faced with other desires to express my individuality which I’d previously subverted.

I was gonna make a dig at the "we shouldn't forgive student loans" types with "I'm sure my ancestors who escaped the pogroms are pretty furious about me not having survived a single pogrom" but given how things have been since 2016, that's not really a sure statement yet.

Whoa, Ken Kelly passed away Friday. I guess I'd always assumed he was the same age as Frazetta or Earl Norem because he painted a lot like them. Checking Wikipedia's entry, he's Frazetta's wife's nephew, so he got to see Frazetta's studio pretty early in his career, that's possibly why he painted that way - that's a pretty cool detail.

Ugh, when I think about it "oh hey Covid is over because we say so" fits into the schema of how much our society likes declaring things done and over despite how epidemiology doesn't quite work that way.

Anti-semitism, anti-blackness, homophobia were all basically fine after society said so, right? So if we ever get off our asses about climate change, I'm sure we'll face a future point where people will be "oh, that was a problem for folks in 2020, but we fixed all that in 2035 and it hasn't been a problem since."

He wasn't expecting he'd face actual CHALLENGES like a pandemic or public anger about systemic racism. Imho Biden's response suggests Hilary wouldn't have handled it especially better, but every Republican bought completely into a narcissist and abuser doing (surprise) DARVO.

Which is the thing about narcs, no matter whether you're on their side or not, you're a victim. You'll be untangling it for years if you get yourself out of the relationship/crap job/etc, but when the narcissist is POTUSA, there's no elsewhere. We're all now STUCK with all the cult stuff the Republican Party has and is because a cheapass abuser was editing reality to make himself awesome.

One thing I've gotten from aging is that people are people and that doesn't clean up into a happy simple duality. People you do NOT LIKE deserve dignity, comfort, and hope. You have to remember the personhood of people who are enemies, who have destroyed your identity and future and hopes and who seem hell-bent on doing it worse. You have to remember it's worthwhile fighting for stuff alongside allies who can seriously step on your toes, because people work that way.

That sort of thing.

The used bookstore had a big stack of “The Most Evil Serial Killers of All Time,” near the US history section - and I couldn’t find a book on Reagan, so I added one about George W. Bush to the evil serial killer stack. Please allow me some bitterness.

fuck I was drawing in my little sketchbook really loosely and watching art videos and then I talked to him and my mood's through the fucking floor.

every now and then I'm so fully conscious of how my Dad's great at making me feel like hot garbage. I could be completely fucking amazing and he'd still make me feel like hot garbage. All the more so because I'm not completely fucking amazing.
