* made marinade and put in pork chops
* peeled, boiled and chopped beets to use on one of the Ottolenghi recipes later
* made a batch of meatballs

then I realized that “uptown” has the same syllabic count as “vampire,” and “backstreet” has the same number of syllables as “werewolf,” and it’s improved Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl” several dozen percent

so there's this march in Das Boot, "Muess I Denn." I was listening to the soundtrack the other day and got curious so; it turns out to be a Swabian folk tune which *was* a "capstan song" in tall ship days, and which the Imperial Navy made a traditional quick-march. I'm not quite sure how you get from "move a capstan" to "quick march," but it seems very stereotypically German to make something faster tempo and thumpier.
