I wasn’t clever enough to avoid staying for dinner so the usual; it’s taking forever, they’re snappish at each other and presumably there’s a chance she’ll snap at me (when you’re a kid you don’t know that your failure to hop to it in just the right way isn’t an innate moral failing). I feel very stuck, trapped and treading water.
Facing an old issue. ADHD might elegantly explain some consistent problems (RSD, inability to focus on this stuff I do only because it’s required of me and feeling stuck there, and I’m always doing it wrong etc). But that could also be PTSD/CPTSD right? And worse I know you can get CPTSD from people reacting badly to ADHD. Testing reveals work is where I’m least focused and motivated. I guess a label doesn’t matter, what’s important is the negative feelings and how to hack them.
My anger at tech for “everything’s been gentrified out of financial reach” and “brick and mortar places have largely gone away so Amazon can grind bodies, souls and communities to nothing,” is this Venn diagram overlap of resenting Musk, resenting AI and its fans, resenting NFTs, and resenting WotC. Just a lot of vague low lying consistent anger.
Shouting
“Get out of here bird, they need you on the ground.”
“WHAT? YOU’LL BE DESTROYED FOR SURE!”
“You heard me!”
“ONWARD MY BRAVE HAWKMEN! LET THIS BE KNOWN FOREVER AS FLASH GORDON’S DAY!”
that Western Traditionalist tweet about Bernini's art
When he was 23, Frank Frazetta - a fantastic artist who like Bernini was basically trained from childhood - was drawing comics for dirt cheap, and his best known work was still far in the future.
When he was 23, Charles Russell was just starting to try out watercolors.
When he was 23, Norman Rockwell had just washed out of the Navy, and despite being trained from youth as an artist, he was just starting to sell cover art.
When he was 23, Henri Tolouse-Latrec had his 1st gallery showing, and getting laid finally gave him something resembling confidence.
When he was 23, Edvin Biukovic was completely unknown outside Croatia.
When he was 23, Iain McCaig was working on Sesame Street. Which I gotta admit is a dream job.
I can't even find any details of what Tim Sale was working on in 1979.
When she was 23, Catherine Jones had just graduated with a geology degree and was just starting to get into comics.
Sergio Toppi wasn't even *doing* comics when he hit 23.
Angus McBride had just finished his stint in the army at 23 and headed for Cape Town to find work.
Victor Ambrus did amazing stuff by 23 - he'd already had one book published, was starting his career in British publishing, he'd narrowly escaped being executed, seen a horrifying amount of death, hiked across the Austrian border in midwinter and left for Britain as dreamed before speaking a word of English.

This makes me want to move to a place with great forests and mountains. Despite my sometimes hate on for Seattle and WA, I'm really glad to live in the PNW.

FRPG thought; any non native in the Underdark deals with depression and dietary problems due to lack of light. Elves straight up die there without trees or seasons, and the word for dark elf doesn’t mean “traitor,” but literally “demon” for what else could dwell in such a place? Many others- bird or cat folk - simply won’t go that deep. Humans and even the tough halflings face penalties until they break through, quickly they hope, to the deepest levels, warmed and lit by geothermal energy.
Tbh the mechanically dull monsters and problems doing anything interesting over 10th level really had me more interested in PF2e, and I’m still thinking about Dungeon World for ease in handling.
Also, I’m really looking forward to a weekend without having to hear a fucking boomer who knows more than everyone else about fucking everything.
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
