In the movie Yellow Submarine, the song “When I’m 64” gets a little countdown with animation ending in a silhouetted couple kissing. A friend lent me and the ex their VHS copy of Yellow Submarine during a *really* bad year - an apartment we thought would be OK turned out to be very not OK, and that movie really helped us both to keep our sanity together, we watched it a lot. So one of our things as a couple became, if “When I’m 64” was playing we’d kiss at the end. I mean a cartoon *said* to.

I haven't watched the start to the movie in years because the sinophobia really grates on my nerves and I missed that part of the movie has *this* gem. John Williams doing jazz, where he started out.

Listening to the soundtrack to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom; our society really has a visual language about weaponry that gets played with in this movie. The only big fight with melee weapons uses tulwars (long visual elements), the only time someone actually tries to knife someone, Chattar Lal swaps grip on a dagger (not a katar!) dramatically as a *framing* element, but even though nobody actually *uses* a katar in the movie, they're the closest read to "a batch of people point guns at the main character."

a track so funky that within 30 seconds I was bobbing my head, within 2 minutes I was dancing, within 4 minutes I was smoking inside restaurants, and by the time it was finished I was fighting The Mob trying to move in on Harlem

Finally I am running into furries I like (so not people I'd happily never deal with again) using AI to make pictures for themselves (so doing the sort of personal-use thing it's SUPPOSED to do, but also taking business away from artists and there's still the art theft aspect).

I'm not sure how best to say "That's a great picture, I'm glad you have it, and I also think AI is unethical at every possible level, could you please not go there?"

Also, I can see why right wingers screamed bloody murder about this thing (to be fair, they'd probably scream bloody murder about any movie further left than 300).

If you want to see a lot of very pretty people not take themselves too seriously, this is your movie.

Wow, that was a incredibly well written movie - it has a lot to say on top of being a really smart comedy, and does so within 2 hours. My only complaint is that right at the end it bogs because it has to somehow wrap up a plot point, and does so by going a sorta schmaltzy route, the sort of thing that you’d cry about if you were a stressed out, mostly Ashkenazic ancestry, and still missed your Gramma. Which of course doesn’t apply here, I’m completely dry eyed.
