are all different things that get conflated easily in a bad, BAD assault on my self worth

when I'm actually happy, I'm so involved in what I'm doing there's little or no meta level of "am I happy right now?"

whereas being unhappy for me always is about disconnection. Something I have to sit out, or stuff I need to do for Better People, to get to things I actually *want*. By definition this solves towards feeling more pessimistic than the situation actually *is*, if that one makes sense?

Imho the "greatest" thing about the USA is how over our entire history African-Americans have achieved greater and greater measures of equality. (We've still got a long way to go and I actually think hope this is just one of those BAD steps backwards like all the bullshit in the 1920s. But still, compare how far we've made it together compared to say, Romani, Basques, Catalans and Bretons in Europe.)
