I'm really enjoying the movement in this film. The first ten minutes have been technically static (castle, Skeksis ritual, Mystics call for Jen, Jen's gettin' music and naked hangout time) but cuts, camera movement and environment mean it feels fairly active.
okay apparently everyone likes muppets who've survived genocidal ethnic purges, so I'm revisiting The Dark Crystal. This was a huge movie to me as a kid because everything in that was obviously made, which means someone had to make them, which means maybe that could be me. And then *gestures to entire childhood* happened.
okay y'want a 40K hot take from someone who isn't playing or painting, and who wanted to build Eldar back when?
I still like Mk VI armor most. A hounskull bascinet look is unique and tells you that these are knights, *kinda* - Mk VII is just a predictable stormtrooper hat. It's not a reason I'm actually thinking about going back to painting but I am *really* happy that Mk X is a more obvious visor.
oh wow, the 40K Wiki actually has a big section about running around with your helmet off.
I know, I'll combine movie opening dialogue - the only thing better than one favorite movie are several!
The beginning is a very delicate time. Much that once was is lost for there are few that remember it...
[Cate Blanchett summarizes the Butlerian Jihad]
... Oh yes, I forgot to mention. Special police squads - BLADE RUNNER UNITS - had orders to shoot to kill, upon detection, any trespassing Replicant.
This was not called execution.
It was called retirement.
Wait WAIT why are you leaving?
things which are definitely not as funny as I think they are; adding "Diane" to any of Paul Mua'dib's internal monologue in the David Lynch "Dune."
I can see this situation spiraling rapidly out of control and resulting in an attempt to simultaneously quote The Crow and the David Lynch Dune.
A building is torched. All that remains is ashes. In this time the most powerful substance in the universe is the spice melange. The spice extends life. The spice expands consciousness. The spice is vital to space travel.
The bizarre day residue in last night’s dreams was having joined the Polish army and commenting that my rogatywka looked like a Feldmütze had babies with a slouch hat. They also issued me a bucket for decontaminating body (power?) armor and my friend mentioned that it wasn’t actually useful for that but most people kept theirs to shit in, in a pinch. Btw the only Polish I know is “good afternoon” and I have no interest in enlisting, my chances of joining the Polish army are pretty limited.

Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
