Like… Computer anything always has this aspect for me of “this is tremendously useful and innovative AND means someone else are the wanted valued people with all the perks huge incomes provide, like literal safety” (a huge personal button from elitism in childhood schools, which remained difficult during the dot boom etc). With AI art there isn’t the aspect of “tremendously useful” and I’m right back to my angriest, pettiest resentment of the tech sector.
As a non techie and former NorCal resident I already associate the tech sector with skyrocketing housing costs, sidewalks blocked by rentable scooters, union busting gigs in place of cabs, the potential danger of self driving vehicles. I was okay curating email datasets for a sales AI intended to aid existing sales people by sorting email. Creating AI “art” intended to not aid but replace, which targets skills I actually wish I could use and veers into art theft, manages to trigger all the rage.
Rant re transphobia
I feel this is because the right needs a distraction and scapegoat they can name openly and while it’s pretty obvious who they’re attacking when they talk about “woke,” “groomer” or “globalists,” trans folks are the last group they can go after without needing a little historical-semantic dance.
Rant re transphobia
Honestly transphobia is a dead end; transness is almost completely inwardly directed. There are no restitutions, no disputed land, nearly no revisions to history textbooks, no dying language, no holiday outside of acknowledgment at Pride, practically no old harmful stereotypes. Literally the biggest thing you need to do to honor trans people is adapt to using unfamiliar pronouns and names. And yet here we are and it’s a huge fuss.

Just one tightened #drawing today, wizard takes on a hill giant or ogre cook in her kitchen!

coyote sing along hour, Goth out!
daylight licked me into shape
must've been asleep for days
and moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
I found myself alone, alone, alone
above the raging sea
stole the only girl I loved
drowned her deep inside of me
you
soft and lonely
you
lost and lonely
you
just like heaven
The escargot story (food).
But I’d just spent two months without garlic in anything! You could probably do the same thing with mushrooms, but butter and garlic on food was so GOOD I ate a dozen of ‘em easily.
The escargot story (food).
UM’s biology station up in Pellston has nicer classes due to location (middle of nowhere is great for fieldwork) and how professors who are museum staff in A^2 do their teaching requirements at the station. The cafeteria serves regular if bland meals.
These things came together. My professor and his wife served escargot as sort of a joke at the Malacology term end party - they had other food figuring these wouldn’t be popular.

Just one #drawing today, dwarf outriders on ponies, with crossbow and spear.
Lots of random gunk, but some drawings and cooking talk too. Obsesses about DnD and related topics. Left-leaning/profoundly frustrated politics. Black lives matter; trans rights are human rights.
