People are people, which means any group gets some unintentionally really hurtful behavior and a few really awful assholes, especially if there's a power structure of any kind, since that's a vested interest in being a really awful asshole. This is on a collision course with wanting Your Group to be The Good Guys, at some point you're stuck with either making things worse or trying to accept that you can still be basically an okay group inclusive of truly egregious bullshit.
