restarted this book on Egyptian boats and again Egypt is fucking OLD. Mycenaeans went from being hugely Minoan to whatever ended that (Thera?) to great palace cities and eventually Dorians showing up, all well within the New Kingdom. The Spring and Autumn Period is about half the Late New Kingdom.

Sometimes I wonder how I saw *anything* that wasn't my Dad's thing when I was a kid. Remembering just how much he could not STAND Flash Gordon, Clash of the Titans, or Excalibur, but you notice I still got to see them, unlike say Conan or Jason and the Argonauts. I think it falls into how our taste in movies and music occasionally really overlaps - he's the guy who introduced me to jidaigeki and The Endless Summer - but more frequently doesn't.

Sure was nice taking a few minutes to worry about my parents, feel good about posting art, and not think about this fucking nightmare.

I swear if I by some miracle outlive him, I'll drink enough that my liver will probably shut down soon after.
