Great use of the "boobies" format mousepad for Overwatch character Zarya.

Deal out playing cards to players and one for each NPC or group, then count down in descending order, collecting cards as they act. Sooo easy to tell if someone hasn't acted yet or where we are in initiative order if I get distracted.
Myself, my take from that was it's okay to decouple Dexterity modifier from initiative. I think next game I run I want to use Savage Worlds style dealing playing cards.
Mike Mearls did an AMA, as part of it he revealed he likes doing his own homebrew initiative system. It sounds really complicated.

It's like, declare your action first, and depending on the type of action, roll different and/or more dice.
Shoot an arrow? Go first.
Swap staff for wand, move to good vantage point, and cast Fireball? Go last.
@thefishcrow Looks likt it's eating some math too. :o
@vahnj shipped beef on toast
@catterfly I think I play both on World of Warcraft but rogue is much higher level. Main mage is a crack elf.
@catterfly rouge ;)
@Siphonay@octodon.social I'm reminded of https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_room#Chinese_room_thought_experiment

@grime_witch@witches.town @bunnylyn I can't argue with that
@Forgebold Oh yeah, still lots of pain before and after, it wasn't a unicorn kiss, it was just the satisfying feeling it was all downhill smooth sailing from here. Downhill sailing. Sorry I'm tired. And now want to go kiss a unicorn.
@Forgebold Don't know if it's applicable, but I had a bad tooth pulled, and it was scary, but in a sort of "we're doing this, this problem is getting addressed right now" kind of way, and though the pain, the instant that thing was gone, there was so much relief. It was like breathing fresh air for the first time after being locked in a submarine for a month.
Hope your experience is at least as positive!
