@Efi There's six selectable settings, here's default, smallest, and biggest https://awoo.space/media/j20z9WZsaoVGK869zow https://awoo.space/media/YtotGVAPKgzZ6RuN9nI https://awoo.space/media/-YQI1WEADgkaTW6vtds
@Efi a quick look at mine and I count about 40 characters wide and four lines, variable width font. Can be set to be larger or smaller, with less or more visible characters.
They were all made in the late nineties / early noughties and the company that made them is long gone, but they made a whole lot of them (mainly for schools) and they're pretty cheap used. Built solid too so unless they were thrown in a wood chipper they should last.
Neat thing is its interface - plain old USB, no drivers needed, it emulates a keyboard. Usable on any device that recognizes USB keyboards. Open a blank document or whatever on the device, and push a button on the AlphaSmart, and it "types" out the current file you're working on. Totally OS agnostic, and future-proof-ish as long as devices support USB.
Any writers out there who want distraction-free writing, like a typewriter, but can easily interface with any computer to retrieve what you type?
I can't recommend getting used AlphaSmart products enough. I got a Neo for $30. Small LCD display, full size keyboard, runs for a year on a few AA batteries.

Hey, guess who finally got a Time-Lost Proto Drake?
Me! On my own private WoW server. Also I'm a GM and can give myself any item. https://awoo.space/media/qlp-EYFiieTzW3wigZ8
I was so absolutely worked up over not being able to put my old seat in and now that it's not a concern all that has washed away and drained and I'm just feeling nearly euphoric.
Or maybe that's just the lack of sleep and the nsaids I've been eating like candy for my sore shoulder.
Either way I'm riding this.
SUCCESS! They had the exact thing I needed in excellent condition and I paid $18 for it (plus $3 admission), but somewhere along the way I lost my nice brand new ratcheting wrench thingy. :(
I had a regular wrench when I got home and that worked great even if it took 5x as long to tighten everything.
It feels absolutely great to have an intact seat again. 🍑 👌
Borrowing friend's car to drive me out to junkyard. They have a CD player! I haven't used CDs in such a long time. I'm taking along a couple of Twink albums, A Very Fine Adventure and Ice Cream Truckin'.

@Nikon "pick and pull" was the key phrase I needed to search for. Found one that lists two cars that might be compatible with mine. Need to wait a couple hours longer before I can call to confirm.
@ThatDamnCat Nope.
With @catterfly 's help I was able to probably find what I was looking for at probably 1/10th the cost I was expecting to pay. Will have to wait for normal business hours to know more.
@ThatDamnCat I just didn't anticipate this level of frustration; this is my only car I need it to drive back and forth to work :(
can't really afford to wait on things
