subtoot technically

"stop apologizing, start thanking" alternatively i can acknowledge when i fucked up?

"not apologizing" isn't going to stop me from feeling guilty about talking about shit no one cares about or w/e

re: subtoot technically

@daylight yeah i should stop doing it

and when i apologize for it i'm saying "oops I know I shouldn't do that"

re: subtoot technically

@monorail no the opinion of "never apologize," though i misread it as "stop apologizing and stop thanking"

re: subtoot technically

@daylight it's not like "don't apologize ever"

here i'll just give you the context

re: subtoot technically

@monorail still dont like it, dont like policing how people talk

re: subtoot technically

@daylight @monorail I think you're misunderstanding what this is meant to say. Some people, us included, have difficulty with over-apologizing, and it feeds back on itself making us feel bad for doing relatively innocuous things. If instead we thank someone for putting up with us, it recontextualizes the whole thing in a way that doesn't set off ingrained self-loathing.

That could be written in a way that doesn't sound so much like an order, though.

re: subtoot technically

@Rosemary @daylight if i don't have ingrained self-loathing what DO i have

re: subtoot technically

@monorail @daylight Well, yours isn't tied to overapologizing at least, if that doesn't help you. Different people need different solutions.

re: subtoot technically

@Rosemary @daylight it's not that it doesn't help

it probably would

but like, if it's deserved then why help it

/that's/ what my point is

Follow

re: subtoot technically

@monorail @daylight That's the point at which you probably need a therapist; the suggestion to apologize less is to help more mild cases in general, I think.

I don't think it's deserved, by the way, for what it's worth.
