@matt What is this, and why are people so interested in it? I'm assuming it's some TV show or webcomic character?

@typhlosion That would explain why he shows up in so few of the games.

@Terrana@tootplanet.space They were originally the symbol separating the name and the domain, before @ was used. This predates modern email systems, but it's likely the reason.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Venus is a viable candidate for habitation as well, as odd as that may sound. There have been concepts of floating habitats in the upper atmosphere.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online I wonder if some far-future human-successors will look at Earth and wonder if that barren planet ever held life?

@monorail Not really the first; it could have come to consoles in the SNES or N64 era and had that hold as well.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online The trombone is pretty distinct.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online Yes, several carriers are throttling certain websites as we recall

We certainly heard about Verizon doing it, but we might have only seen that one because we're stuck with them.

@JulieSqveakaroo If it isn't, look for a replaceable battery as a feature on your replacement unit. And if the existing one didn't have it, communication with the computer is a good bonus too--it's a nice feature to have, when the UPS can tell the computer that it's lost power, and the computer can do what it needs to do to safely shut down without losing your unsaved work.

@JulieSqveakaroo No need to get a new UPS; every one we've ever seen has a replaceable battery. Just swap the battery out and you're good to go. Don't forget to properly recycle the old one.

@JulieSqveakaroo Of course, since the battery circuit will probably be fused separately from the rest of it, that's worth looking into first. A UPS is a useful thing to have, but they do have more failure modes than a simple surge protector.

@JulieSqveakaroo If this is a double-conversion type battery backup--the most reliable type to work in a power failure, but least efficient and reliant on the battery even when there is power available--it's possible the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

@pearshapes@snouts.online Some instances updating to 3.0 has managed to break federation in a few cases.

@cozykaffe@snouts.online If they're different depictions of the same unicode codepoints, I think the term would be either typeface or font.

Rosemary boosted

@cozykaffe@snouts.online I don't think we've heard anyone say much good about burger king. It's on par with mcdonald's for cheapest and lowest-quality.

Goodnight, all. May you dream of wonders.

@monorail "gamefowl" is a semi-common term for certain types of birds, so I would assume "gamecock" and "gamehen" are variants thereof.
