Why are the pistons in an engine always circular, anyway?

I've been feeling some kind of ennui lately, I think. Lacking in drive to do things.

Apparently there are people who actually think that newton's third law doesn't exist and rocket motors don't work in a vacuum.

I don't understand how people get these absurd ideas that all of science is somehow fake.

Hmm. I wonder why all the Fire Emblem representatives in Smash are sword-wielders. Playing as Eliwood with his spear would be interesting.

Are there any spear-based characters in Smash?

I just had the thought of making glass nails, and I feel like there's some artistic meaning to be had there, but I'm not sure what it is.

It would be fascinating to see how some of the stranger laboratory glassware is made. Beakers and flasks are simple, but how are soxhlet extractors or vigreaux columns made? Or the weirder condensing columns, too.

every so often i remember that the swedish vallhund breed exists, and i am DELIGHTED because it's basically like they smacked a wolf with the corgi ray

If you think about it, an internal combustion engine essentially powers a vehicle by hundreds of explosions per second.

I like to think that I'm at least a little better than Felthry when it comes to social interaction, but really, we both manage to mess things up frequently.

In that story of Solomon and the two people who both claimed to be mother to a baby, it's rather disturbing how quickly the false mother was willing to cut the baby in half.

What does OG as used to mean "original" actually stand for, anyway?

We learned a new word today! Apparently, those little cups that restaurants give you condiments in are called ramekins. Technically the word refers specifically to ceramic ones, but it seems like a good word to use for the plastic or paper ones too.

A neat puzzle I just saw: You can place a black king anywhere you like on a chessboard of a given size m×n. Where do you place it such that you can place also the maximal number of white queens that do not attack the king? And how many of those queens can you place?

I wonder if you can get metal playing cards, and whether they'd actually be any good for playing card games with.

It feels like something that would be more appealing to the tarot fortunetelling crowd than to anyone playing card games, for some reason.
