"real" and "fake" are not very useful concepts when it comes to identity. Rather, throw them both out and judge things based on usefulness, helpfulness, or just how comfortable or appropriate they feel to the person or persons in question. There will be a lot less stress and imposter syndrome.

I wonder if it's possible to beat Super Mario World without killing any enemies other than bosses? I saw something about how speedrunners often kill yoshis, and that got me thinking about a "humane" speedrun category.

Why do we call Germany that, when its own people call it Deutschland? Why did the term Dutch get applied to people from the Netherlands, instead of translating Nederlander to Netherlander, when the German people call themselves Deutsch?

If someone is genderfluid, but their gender only changes very slowly, would it be apt to say their gender is very viscous?

A possibly related phenomenon is called crown shyness – certain species of trees will very politely avoid overshadowing each other in a forest canopy, leaving gaps between each others' branches.

Mostly trees of the same species will do this, but different species of tree have been observed doing this too.

Again, no one's entirely sure how the trees do this, and some botanists are probably arguing about it somewhere right now.

Coming up to front to find that your headmate just said "the Wii is basically the PS2 of Nintendo" is an interesting feeling.

I'm probably either underleveled or underskilled or both.

In the end, I think I'm giving up on being able to beat the final boss sequence of Kingdom Hearts 1, and I'm just going to watch a video of it. Or five videos of it, since this was apparently posted back when youtube had a limit of ten minutes per video.

Is it just me, or is the kingdom hearts 1 level hollow bastion extremely frustrating? There's a ledge where you have to fight a bunch of flying enemies that won't stay over the ledge, your normal attacks automatically jump towards the enemies, and falling off the ledge puts you back at the beginning of the world. I'm tired of running through the entrance hall over and over again.

Just got to Hollow Bastion on the first Kingdom Hearts game. This is good music, for sure.

Ah, found it. Fortunately we have an old pair of glasses that's close to the right prescription.

I don't know how this happened, but somehow one of the lenses fell out of our glasses overnight. I have no idea where it is.

Feeling a little down tonight. Not sure why. I could use some conversation, I think.

re: plural stuff, thinking about video games

I wonder if an unconscious understanding that we're plural is why we liked Baten Kaitos so much? In it, you play as the guardian spirit of the main character Kalas; essentially his headmate.

plural stuff, FFX spoilers

Tidus from Final Fantasy X is actually fairly relatable as a member of a multiple system. Partway through the story he learns that he doesn't exist in the way others tend to define "exist", but... he's able to take it in stride, because in every way that really matters he does exist.

I'm concerned that Amazon decided to put a "MAGA" hat in the "recommended for you" section. Also a balaclava.
