Bleak notions abound.
Anyways, I'm grateful this network exists, and that I have the people I've connected with in it.

If I'm trying to get a following for my work, and I'm using Twitter, and Twitter is designed to be addictive - just how much profiting off addiction can I live with?

And now I have to contemplate the notion that it will remain the Everything Website indefinitely because we simply cannot get an alternative to the same level. I enjoy Mastodon, but its onboarding experience has left friends in tears.
What if this fash-enabling, brain shattering site is just, how we do the social internet from now on. Even if we hate it, we have to use it.

I dropped back in on my main the other day and got depressed, because posting was just as high as before I left.
I realize that making the leap is tough and I don't judge anyone who can't. It is legit hard. It's taken me years to build things up enough outside Twitter before I could even get to the point I'm at.
But the point I'm at, it's like cigarette smoke to an ex-smoker. Just cannot stand it.
@moali one hell of a security bug, no? I should check in on Ello too.
The reviews on MIDNIGHT SUNS are tempting me.
I thought "cards? Woof." But I'm coming around on them now that I play Marvel Snap a lot, because that randomness means you can't optimize the fun out of a game fully. And that aside: it's a squad based tactical RPG where you can join Blade's book club or play video games with Peter Parker or tune up Robbie Reyes' car! That is laser aimed at me!
BRAND ECHO HAS RETURNED!
And now it's on what will most likely be the fastest loading website you'll visit today!
BRAND ECHO is the story of Alice Ackerman, the widow of the star of the biggest science-fantasy franchise in history. She's unhappy with the way the legacy of her beloved has been used. And lately, she has been seeing the strangest things...
re: Excerpts from a conversation with my mother
@Phorm It's one of those "glowing anime recommendation is only 70% caveats" things, but I do love it a lot.
re: Excerpts from a conversation with my mother
@Phorm For the longest time, I honestly though "Stand" was a play on a fighting stance. Nope - it has another, more ridiculous, but somehow better, linguistic origin. 😁

the weather has been nothing but grey haze for the past few days and I find myself looking forward to the relative color contrast of the middle of the night, for variety's sake.
But even then, it's so cold I can't go anywhere. And it's bringing back a lot of rough feelings, like "why am I trying to fool myself into thinking there is anything likable about me."

@Sylvan That said, I got a game coming up that's less about feelings so I might rec this to the group. Thanks!
@Sylvan Nice! If I'm ever in the mood for a crunchy game I'll try it. But the reason MASKS is my favorite is that it concentrates far less on power levels and far more on how a teen superhero melodrama works in terms of character motivations, relationships and negative emotions, which is stuff I very rarely see a game dedicate itself to at all, much less do it as well as this system does.
@Sylvan Nope, what're its strengths?
@irisjaycomics Mussolini's right there and he orders some deaths. Subtle it ain't, but we live in unsubtle times.
1) MASKS: my favorite tabletop game of all time. Simulates a specific subgenre of superheroes, but simulates it better than any RPG I've ever played simulates any genre.
2) Delta Green: The game that lies, that taught me to embrace it when shit is unfair and everything is on fire but dammit, you gotta go on.
3) PF2E: "Oh, that is what D&D 4th Edition was trying to do." And it does it very, very well.
@emaytch Yeah. It was convenient. But maybe an Everything Website was not sustainable.
