encounter with a ghost (?) long ago
So I had completely forgotten that this happened, but Mom remembers it vividly. When I was 4 or 5, one of the relatives, a great aunt, died and we traveled to go to the funeral. Everyone else who would be attending already had lodgings, so we were offered the house of the deceased to sleep in.
That night, Mom dreamed there was an old lady demanding to know what she was doing there and who she was. Mom being who she is, and of a rather rational bent, assumed on waking that it was just her subconscious playing tricks on her since she was spending the night in an unfamiliar home and the funeral was on her mind.
Except I hadn't slept well either, and told Mom that I dreamed about an old lady demanding to know what I was doing there in her house and who I was.
The only memory I have of the whole affair (outside of the funeral itself, of which I remember only that I was uncomfortable) was that her house had a secret passage to the attic hidden in the closet, and another door behind a fridge downstairs to get to the cellar. Potential ghosts? Meh. 5-year-old me was far more interested in the possibilities of hidden doors and staircases.
