Ughhhhhh woke up with swollen lymph nodes in my neck and an achey body.

I did *not* slog through the week just to spend my weekend in bed. :( :( I really want to go to a party tonight. fml

anxiety, new friends

@dani I'm really happy for you! 💜

Food

Does anyone else think the Costco poppyseed muffins kinda taste like cleaning products smell?

Like, not even in a bad way, necessarily. Just a "that there's some Lemon Flavor, huh."

Food waste/overeating/kids

So it's clear that none of these kids I work with were shamed into overeating in the interest of "clearing their plate", like I was. Which is good!

On the other hand, the amount of food they throw away makes me want to cry.

Good news: I got at least 8 hours of sleep last night!

Bad news: The kids are extra wiggly today, so I'm already worn out.

There's an emphasis on enforcing politeness that I've seen in mainstream elementary school classes and feel a little weird about. I think kids should be taught to set, enforce, and respect boundaries, but not to give overly sappy, forced apologies.

Oh yeah, for sure!

I work primarily in special education, which has its own (slightly different) politics and underlying philosophy. There's a similar focus on getting compliant behavior from students, which makes me a little sad but ultimately makes teaching social, academic, and daily living skills easier. The rules tend to be more practical than arbitrary though, since simplifying communication is the priority.

True, tbh.

I work in an elementary school and find myself "shhhing" kids & asking them to please walk in the hallways constantly. It's not fun for me or them, but there are some practical aspects to it (children not running and crashing into each other, causing injury, for example. Elementary kids *do not* have great spatial/kinesthetic awareness, so this would absolutely happen)

If anecdotal evidence means anything, it's totally the reverse.

@Skirmisher I'm gonna, I'm gonna! *Breakfast club fist jump*

Okay this will out me as the incredibly boring human I secretly am BUT:

I just might get 9 hours of sleep tonight, on a weeknight, and I'm extremely excited about it.

(Excited in a sleepy way)

@vahnj yeah, not super personal, except that she tends to be a really empathic, reactive person, which is exactly what I *don't* want to be around when I'm in a nonsocial move. So not exactly personal, but also slightly exaggerated based on the kind of personality she has.

@vahnj yeeeeah totally! I guess that's what I mean when I said "feral" haha. It's just like, gah, I'm drinking beer & watching Bojack in my jammies, don't make me have to Human.

At least she understands it though. She gets like that too sometimes, so doesn't hold it against me. I just feel guilty, because in those moments I reeeeally can stand to interact with her.

@kit

Sorry for the toot, didn't see the "don't reply".

I deleted my reply.

Lmk if you do ever want to talk, though. I'm going through some similar stuff.

I don't know why I just can't stand talking to my roommate sometimes.

She's a perfectly kind person, & when I plan to hang out with her (like get coffee or play dnd) I absolutely enjoy her company.

But whenever she comes home, her eye contact and intense affect feels... Almost painful? Maybe it's just the sudden, feral encounter, going from being alone to being Social With a Person.

Maybe I just have a huge amount of trouble being "off" in front of people, or switching quickly from off to on.
