anyone have any good explanation for why it seems like half the people I try to add here just return a 404 error?

I don't feel like digging into how this whole thing handles federation, blah blah blah, I already hate computers enough.

@SomeEgrets awoo.space has a closed in system where the admins have to approve instances. This is to prevent interactions from.nadty and bigoted instances.

@XerTheSquirrel yeah, I knew that. Again, I don't know how fediverse handles cross-instance stuff, but I had thought that even being able to search+display their profile at all meant it was allowed, but trying to follow ends up failing.

I like the whitelist model, but with everyone in the world and their dog spinning up their own custom instances, I'm not sure it's going to be able to keep up.

@SomeEgrets Yeah, in the long run I think auto-whitelist just for you to follow would be best.
