DeviantArt concedes and switches to having works opted out of their AI training pool by default. #deviantart

deviantart AI art summary (2/2)
- they are also releasing an AI art generator that is either "stable diffusion" or "based on stable diffusion" depending on where you look
- they are *not* feeding your deviations into it, regardless of the opt-out
- stable diffusion was however trained on art from deviantart, among others
- it's likely that future stable diffusion models will honor the opt out but nothing much can be done about the current one
DeviantArt is adding a new feature where your art can be authorized for inclusion in 3rd-party datasets... but it is enabled by default, and you have to manually turn it off for every individual deviation of yours in order to fully opt out.
I don't have the spoons to do that for 179 deviations, and I don't really use my DA account anyways, so I just deleted it.
fediblock rec meta
i've seen it going around, mostly from one user who came here in the last ten days, that #fediblock is "not to be used for individual users" and that it is "only for admins"
don't listen to that person, they are *wrong.* #fediblock was started by @CaribenxMarciaX as a way of letting communities protect themselves from bad actors and instances.
i repeat: #fediblock is EXPLICITLY open to everyone to report red flag users AND instances, and it has been for YEARS
Additional Political Call-to-Action, mention of hunting and trapping, animal death
It is especially important to work with states where wolves have been successfully reintroduced and now are considering or have delisted wolves, like Montana. They do, admittedly validly, criticize that those most passionate about it tend not to live there, but let us look at another state: Wisconsin. They tried delisting wolves and opening a season for hunting and trapping wolves. In one weekend, they managed to kill a third of all wolves living in their state. At the very least, the Wisconsin wildlife management teams realized their fuckup and promptly relisted wolves, but this could and should have been avoided.
In Montana, at least once a year we have to read stories of someone's dog being shot because an overzealous and unstewardly hunter mistook it for a wolf. Given those are incidents that make national news, it likely happens much more.
Mastodon isn’t twitter. And that’s what’s great about it.
It’s not facebook or Tumblr or Reddit either.
Doesn’t have to be and shouldn’t be. It can be better. There’s no need to chase clout or start fights, and if that’s what you’re after, there’s a little website that’s struggling right now that’s perfect for you, it’s called “twitter”
If you are not an #admin
please use #fediblock even though you were told not to
I created the tag
and it is for all of us to use
Yes, still report, block silence and or suspend
still talk to your mods and admin
but if you feel like you gotta warn the whole neighborhood, use #fediblock
I have been written out #fediblock as a tool way too many times now
between the account that was made
the external website that was made
and now ppl rewriting how it's used and for whom
ppl use it constantly yet @gingerrroot and I aren't getting tips but ppl wanna decide who and what its for
Stop the erasure
