reasons mastodon's "viral dampening effect" is a good thing:

👉🏻 no "main character of the day"
👉🏻 no free text searching for people to get angry at (and harrass)
👉🏻 doomscrolling is *actually bad for you* and not a thing we should be trying to replicate
👉🏻 birdsite's virality is heavily driven by actual paid advertising and bots. You think that "Explore" tab gets its content organically? really? That's not making connections between people, it's about driving sales.

Mastodon is not, and should not be, a 1:1 replacement for Twitter. But it *can* be a new place for you to make valuable connections with other human beings. #twitter #twittermigration

- Removal of entire services on a whim, which leave the structure crippled
- Immediate termination of anyone critical of these methods
- Internal espionage to find disgruntled persons he hasn't terminated yet
- Paranoia
- Sets unrealistic goals, demands everyone stick to these goals, makes clear that anyone who isn't hardcore enough in their commitment or who doesn't meet these impossible goals will be terminated

Friends, I IMPLORE you, please stop blaming users for flocking to the larger Mastodon instances. There are UX challenges with onboarding to Mastodon, and the benefits of signing up for smaller instances are neither straightforward nor clear. Blaming new users excludes them from the community and promotes toxic discourse.

Oh dear....... RIP servers. #Twitter is starting to crash, and Mastodon's signups are spiking. I repeat, when #Mastodon crashes wait until tomorrow, we will be here.

If you're considering allowing corporate accounts on your instance, please recall the Parable Of The Crustpunk Bar and remind yourself that corporations can stand up their own instances if they want.

I know you're probably in FOSS and don't mind just giving away your labor for nothing, but this isn't just that. You're giving away a platform and giving away your credibility.
