Add that to a bunch of stuff I've seen lately with non Americans using gun violence as an excuse to be shitheads (the victims of that violence are also American and there's never a good time to score a sick dunk on dead high schoolers, buds) and it's just really left a bad taste in my mouth. Whugh.

@angrboda I still kind of have this niggling annoyance over the incessant America dunking I got while I was overseas (that I didn't really bother refuting, because what's the point)

yeah, I get it, our government is bad, the imperial system sucks, all Americans are pushy and annoying, we all only consume McDonalds and Starbucks, etc.

There are a lot of nice things about New Zealand but being a smugger Canada isn't one of them.

I spent like ten minutes of my life trying to type up a stupid reply and then realized it's incredibly pointless and I should go do my laundry instead

@ticky three of our biggest cities correlate super directly to time zones (NYC is eastern, Chicago is central, LA is pacific) and mountain time can use Denver which is still pretty easy to remember. It's 3 hours' difference from coast to coast which I was taught as a kid. I guess we're spoiled by having it be pretty simple? IDK.

I think there's also an argument that time by city is more useful because some of the time zones cut up really weird, but I get your frustration.

@Antifreeze sometimes this stuff is so fascinating that it's easy to forget the incredibly heavy human cost. The book Voices From Chernobyl contains translations of first hand accounts of the accident, including one by the wife of one of the firemen that is just... eugh.

I forgot to mention I finally booked the stuff for FE! We're not in the con hotel, which I'm fine with because I don't always love being in the con hotel for furry cons and last year their wifi was bad/nonexistent
