@mcc @luna lifetime specifiers seem very closely tied to the call stack, and that's usually my first approximation. the rest is tracking ownership to see which part of the call stack is going to finalize a value.

there are aspects of operating in this space that can be a nightmare.

i'm not a true believer in any particular solution, but what i do see is a lot of people trying to grapple with the bofh syndrome.

this has been a problem since there have been systems, and i don't think being being your own operator will ever be a solution that everyone can practically engage in.

but governance can also suck.

equitable systems need to be accessible and be able to deal with bad actors. i wish i felt like i knew what the answers were, but after 6 years of open federation...
