some thoughts on my mastodon experience so far 

– for the time being, im maintaining my twitter presence. not just for fundraising or account preservation reasons, but bc that's still where most of my peoples are, and that's still where news, events, and resources are announced & circulated. like i attended 2 conferences/webinars that i only knew about bc of academic twitter moots who haven't migrated yet. so for now, it's practical. & a part of me is always gonna be where my people be.

I'm going to try to get more comfortable posting on here. The last few days have felt like I needed to out of necessity.

It's a bit difficult when this feels heavy.

I do feel like I am being erased out of the story about race and safety of the fedi for either lighter, more elitist and clouty actors.

I did the work here. I stand by that statement.

My chosen benediction when I learn of someone's death is "sit ei terra levis." I chose it after I was informed — as an agnostic who just took it for granted — that "rest in peace" is specifically associated with Christian burials.

"Sit tibi terra levis" is a benediction for the dead from ancient Roman tombs. It means "may the earth lie lightly upon you". I've swapped the "tibi" for "ei" — "you" for "that person".

@oddtail Oh, it's even more disgusting: Uploaded art isn't deleted if you delete your account. So you *have* to go through and one-by-one opt out, or *delete everything before deleting your account,* or they'll still be able to use it.

Edit: Oh hey, the checkbox is only for third party use. There's apparently an opt-out form. More info over here: mastodon.art/@Slugdog/10932670

Edit 2: <voice type=FuturamaProfessor>Good news, everyone!</voice> DA is rolling things back. Sorta.
