@dog I've been thinking about doing this for the serial experiments lain ps1 game. there's already an english translation so it'd mostly be hacking in a subtitles engine

@dog I've started reading up on the ps1 hardware / programming but I haven't really looked at the disc layout for the game yet
@dog there was some existing attempts that tried to hard embed subtitles into the fmvs and background images but that approach didn't work all that well http://psx.lain.pl
@erinolivia Hardsubs in the FMVs would be fine for FMVs, but yeah, I'm guessing sometihng much cleverer for the rest of the game'll be necessary. Does it have text usually?
@dog some. its more or less a database of text files, fmvs, and audio clips. it's the audio clips that are the hard part
