TIL “tamale” (cornmeal and filling wrapped in corn husk) and “tomalley” (edible fat in a lobster) are unrelated words; I always figured “tomalley” was a corruption of “tamale”.
Nope: “tamale” is from a Nahuatl word meaning “wrapped”, and “tomalley” is from the Carib word referring to that part of the lobster.

(With apologies to a couple of friends I know working in blockchain startups) is blockchain the ultimate example of putting technologies before actual needs? The first thing I learned from innovation training was "Problem First": find the right tech to solve a problem, not the other way around.

What English word has three consecutive double letters?
"Bookkeeper" (although I'm told there are others).
Politics, Facebook
As an aside, it's a dark year for the tech industry when a major news magazine can ask with a straight face whether one of the largest and most successful tech companies can be tried for crimes against humanity.
As Facebook is the #1 site on the web, part of my job on the Edge perf team is to make sure that Facebook runs fast. It's hard to find any corner of the tech industry that doesn't have blood on its hands. What a demoralizing time to work in tech.

Published in 2014 but surprisingly prescient, given recent platform changes by Twitter, Patreon, YouTube, and others.
I'm betting that @christi3k is exactly right about why Patreon has changed their fee structure this week in a way that, in my opinion, makes their business basically worthless. https://subfictional.com/my-theory-patreon-doesnt-want-to-be-a-money-services-business/
Especially since, OMG, "You can no longer use your Patreon balance to make pledge payments to avoid the per-pledge processing fee."
