Pharmacology, hrt, steroids

Those taking steroid hormones be it HRT or anti-inflammatory therapy should make sure to intake more sulfur in their diet, sulfate is required to produce Adenosyl-sulfate diphosphate which is used for elimination of many steroids through sulfation, but low sulfur means less taurine, glutathione, and sulfated proteins essentially for the gel structure near cells (eg. Chondroitin-sulfate) so not getting enough sulfur can fuck your body up.

@Elizafox being at work with a hand vac that I'd just used to vacuum up something, and passing by a customer with a baby lying flat in a baby carriage, and suddenly had the impulse to vacuum the baby. I have no idea where that thought came from, and I was able to suppress it without acting on it, but *damn* it was tempting for a few seconds...

@gannet @aldersprig@tootplanet.space yeah, that's the thing--it's "normal/natural" for humans, but we don't live that way now, and if it's interfering with getting enough sleep to function then yeah, it's effectively insomnia. I usually play a couple of games of Solitaire and fall back asleep easily enough, but not everybody can. :/

@aldersprig@tootplanet.space not unless you can't get back to sleep. it's actually--more biologically normal than sleeping straight through eight hours; humans normally sleep for four hours, have a brief period of activity, then go back to sleep. most people don't do the full waking in between thing; they stumble to the bathroom, or put a blanket on the bed or take it off or whatever, and don't even remember having woken up at all.

If you've watched YouTube videos in the last couple days, you may have noticed the phrase "ad blitz" in the upper-left hand corner of your screen.

Ad blitz is a marketing term. It entered the English lexicon by the WWII German tactic of 'Blitzkrieg' or 'lightning war' in which an enemy would be met with a sudden and overwhelming force.

Advertisers literally think they are attacking you. They think of you as an enemy, as a military target.

Act in kind.

@guerrillarain@witches.town female validity is measured inversely by purse size. if your purse is big enough to contain a package of chips you are obviously not a *real* woman.

Pooka is kneading and nesting into the bathrobe pile on the floor in front of my desk, and I can hear the *PRRRR*PRRRRRR*PRRRRRR* from where I'm sitting. XD

@hvee last summer there was a Cooper's nesting nearby, which I didn't find out about until the three (!! very successful nest!!) fledglings were hopping around in the trees whistling for food on a daily basis. XD the crows are mostly paired up, and I think already building nests. I'd be surprised if a red-tail moves in, this strip of woods is already pretty crowded, but I'd be delighted! it'd be even better if the coyotes came back too... :)

I'm pretty sure she (or another hawk) has been hanging around quite a bit in the last week or so, too--I've caught glimpses of hawks several times, and heard them, and heard the crows mobbing them; they could all be the same hawk, and could all be her. I'm probably being overly optimistic, but--fingers crossed! :D

Show thread

oooh, no, I'm completely wrong here--*female* red-tail hawks are up to 25% larger than males, and can be larger than crows! so that was almost certainly a female, possibly scouting for nesting territory! :D that would be *so awesome* eeeeee

Show thread

hmm... looking at pictures, I'm now pretty sure it *wasn't* a Cooper's; it didn't have stripes on the tail, it had a more or less solid rusty red tail. and no, it wasn't a redtail hawk, it was *far* too large... I think! lemme check.

Show thread

heard the crows going off, looked out the window, and saw a largish hawk in the tree branches just outside my office! I want to say it was a Cooper's, because I know they were nesting here last summer, but it seemed a little big for a Cooper's. it moved to another branch farther down the row of apartments, then to a branch in an evergreen where it had cover from the mob--and where I also couldn't see it any more.
