ancient Egyptian history
@mona@cybre.space aaanyway, the thing about the pyramids is that they were built way WAY long ago, back in the early half of the Old Kingdom. and they built a *lot* of them, all over the place. but (again IIRC) by the end of the Old Kingdom period, they were starting to have difficulty transmitting the information; and by the Middle Kingdom, they didn't know how to make them any more. (which is also how Khufu the architect became a god!)
ancient Egyptian history
@mona@cybre.space the Kemetic religion is all about adherence to tradition and rituals; it's how they managed to keep a continuitous society going for *two thousand years*. so when the Greeks said "enh we're not going to bother with your stupid religion, just worship our gods instead," it was incredibly traumatic to the Egyptians.
and it wasn't the first time it had happened; the reason for the Old, Middle, and New Kingdoms was because of the "interregnums" of non-Egyptian rule.
ancient Egyptian history
@mona@cybre.space ok well prefaced with all this is IIRC, but:
part of the reason they vilified her was because she was the first in the line of Ptolemaic governors who bothered to actually *learn* anything about Egypt. she learned the language, revived the use of heiroglyphics, and began doing the traditional rituals that had been the jobs of the pharohs, and as a result the Egyptian people *adored* her.
lewd content, sex meta, issue
@LottieVixen@dev.glitch.social when I was in my cis-het egg I had a couple of cis-het-male partners who were SHOCKED at how... active I was. and it never occurred to me not to be? one commented to me about it and I said "what, do most women just lie there?" and he said "yeah... now that I think about it, it's kinda weird."
I wonder if cis-het people have internalized the "SEX IS FOR MAKING BABIES NOT HAVING FUN YOU FILTHY SINNER" to a *very* unhealthy degree. :|
lewd content, sex meta, issue
@LottieVixen@dev.glitch.social in my (admittedly rather random) experience, cis-het people get enculturated with this specific idea of how "men and women" are supposed to perform/react in sex, and unless they broaden their perspective (with non-standard media, sexing with non-cis-het folx and PAYING ATTENTION) they tend to stick to those roles tenaciously. I've also encountered the "cis-het woman as passive mute unresponsive partner" thing before and it unnerved the *fuck* out of me.
WoW moments
"oh good, I haven't been kicked for inactivity yet, whew. okay, let's go do some fishing and cooking dailies!"
panic attack

sick day (chores, food)
today has been composed almost entirely of listless flopping around. I got the one thing I needed to do today done (call in sick from volunteering tomorrow), then somehow managed to get a couple of bonus things done (put a load of laundry on to wash, then dry, and finish filling the dishwasher and get that going) along with the usual daily needs of cat and self feeding.
I'm feeling a little better--like, 20% improvement. not a lot, but right now it feels *HUGE*. :P
I trained a neural network on the list of thesis titles from MIT. Need a research topic? http://aiweirdness.com/post/169581821297/thesis-titles-generated-by-neural-network
